What most do wrong here, is not starting by making a connection first. They're nervous and just spit out their rehearsed pick up line, expecting something magic to happen. In fact, it's all about connecting and improvisation; funny pick up lines make most girls cringe (at least here in Europe). The guy asking to go to the movies showed it.
