Yeah, Ian, the MP-200 is really that AMAZING! I still really like the MP-110, that my friend is loving right now, but the MP-200 is in a league of it’s own! The bass is tight without being boomy, the mids just sing, and the highs are perfect without being too shrill. It crushes carts I’ve heard costing much, much more! The yellow+purple+black on the StudioDeck will look so great, & the purple+white on your P3 will look almost like candy! Hahaha! I’m very excited for your shootout between the 2 decks. Can’t wait! I know if anyone one will do a fair and detailed comparison, it’s you. Your descriptions of everything you review are so perfect, and leave people able to make a very educated decision in choosing new gear. Hey, I certainly do! I would never have known how magical the Nagaoka carts are without you, so I thank you so sincerely for that. Truly. The MP-200 is living very happily on my heavily modified SL1200 M3D, and I have a Grado Black2 on the way to go on my AR XA. Thank you again, Ian! You are awesome, my friend!

Brushed aluminium panel on the right and extending below and rearwards to house the gold-plated RCA terminals. Plinth is very sturdy, thick, well-made. Cue lever operates extremely well!!!! Platter too is well sculpted throughout and the suspension feet are just superb. I am really eager to find out if it matches or supercedes the P3 in sound quality!! Next year this time when the bonus comes in will either get a Rega P3 or Mofi Studiodeck or maybe a Vpi Cliffwood. Once I realized my dream speakers are out of reach it is the only thing I need to get until I can ever afford a pair of used Audio Note AN-E/LX. For right now that is in the future.

My System: Pro-Ject Debut III Pro-ject Speed Box S Herbie's Way Excellent Turntable Mat Cambridge Audio 651P phono preamp Shure M97xe with Jico Stylus Pro-Ject CDbox S SimAudio 100D Dac Jolida 102CRC Klipsch Heresy III Here is the thing I love that silly amp and the DAC as well the CDBox as a transport. The Heresy speakers are very live with the only real faults of bass extension and resolution in high frequencies. Otherwise, they are so good all the speakers I had heard as incremental upgrades just do not do it for me. Really surprising little boxes those Klipsch speakers enough faults to keep you looking at speakers and enough greatness to make you want to keep them. If I had a dollar for everyone online who regrets selling their pairs I would be a very rich man indeed.

My mouth is watering for this shootout. I am skeptical of the turntable but I like the stylings for it's price point. I guess the reason why I am skeptical is if they are just trying to sell the brand name.

Buddy Paul :-D yes we shall look forward to this shoot-out. I am as eager as you. I am an enneagram Type 5 person just like you...and probably with some wing 6 traits. Neutral to all, but with just a touch of skepticism. Brother, I had just unboxed it yesterday, and the lid is thick, well sculpted and sturdy, even how it fits into the rear hinges of the plinth at the rear, is very nicely sculpted. Plinth is really sturday and well finished. That brushed black aluminium panel on the right is superb, and extends downwards and rearwards all the way to house the rear gold-plated RCA terminals. The feet by HRS, are just superb: they act like little suspension kits, and are also adjustable. The platter is very well sculpted. The whole thing looks very well thought-out and designed and not like a lot of turntable manufacturers who want to jump on the bandwagon. I will see if its sonics hold up and matches, or perhaps beat the Planar3? It is an unknown now. And i am working on it very soon :-D All the Best Buddy Paul. The MoFi certainly has simple, functional elegance. Thanks for doing this review for us, Ian! At this crucial price point, the buyer has the right to expect solid value, durability and performance. Anybody willing to put out this much cash for a turntable is not looking to upgrade down the road, he has the reasonable expectation to keep it the rest of his days. Thanks again for your kind words. Just waxing philosophical again: I'm certainly hoping something in this shoot-out can deliver sound quality as you pointed out. For this much money, the buyer deserves it, without having to do any tweaking! Seems like when I was a young audiophile, I and most of my friends had more free time to do things like build kits, hot rod our cars, tweak equipment, etc. But these days, in the States at least, both parents work, sometimes two jobs. Much less time for hobbies. So, in consideration of the target market, a piece of equipment needs to be right (outside of initial necessary setup) out of the box.

Hello Ian ,hope you are doing well .I also think it is going to be a tough battle .But in Europe P3 cost ¬700euro and mofi ¬1100 euro . Without prejudge the result , I am very curious if in your review could include some external help for P3 ( psu ,subplatter ,platter upgrade ) , Besides It is the usual upgrade path for most .(I believe some of your friends could help with the upgrades) . Recently I acquire an old P3(old motor) in excellent condition and indeed there is a huge difference comparing to project 1 in every sector .exactly as you had described. Test their speed accuracy please - Rega has been said to run fast, I'd like to know what you find here. Also please test their ability to isolate against vibration, since they both have such uh, non-complicated plinths to be polite, I'd be curious to know if either manage to mitigate any vibration at all (knocks/taps etc on the plinth and surrounding surfaces during playback).

I have been reading up on the StudioDeck for a while too and would want to solve this riddle of which one is better: P3 or StudioDeck...for a long time. The P3 is a very powerful and accomplished deck. It would take some beating in order to supercede it in terms of sonic performance. 😄..but inital impressions are that it feels and looks superb in the flesh. The brushed thick aluminium panel, and extending below and rearwards to house the gold-plated RCA terminals, the substantial and well-finished plinth, the very well sculpted platter, the amazingly good to operate cue-lever. Very well done by MoFi in this first foray into turntable manufacturing. I will set about testing the two decks out soon in concurrence with the MP-200 review which i am working on! My local Rega retailers Mr Mark and Mr Brandon of Audio88 have been totally 100% relaxed and extremely cool to the point of -273.15degC when I reported their phonostages as not being up to par. And they couldn't care, and know that I am who I am. They respect that I am who I am: just honest ian. Same goes with the local Grado retailer Mr Loo whom you see in this video, was -273.15degC cool :-D when I reported previously his Grado Gold and Grado Platinum2 as not being comparable to the Nagaoka MP-150 and MP-200. We all maintained our beautiful professional friendship: amicable, joyful, calm and respectful. Mr Loo also retails your MoFi electronics of course! My local AudioNote retailer also retails Aavik, Raidho, Leben, Scansonic, Shunyata, Ansuz, Ortofon, Miyajima, Etsuro Urushi, Triplanar, Devialet, HRS etc... :-D and both Mr Desmond and Mr David have also been 0 Kelvin cool when I didn't rate the Ortofon carts and trailing behind the Nagaoka/Grado/Goldrings in the various cartridge review price classes I have done. You know that I do not fly the flag for any manufacturers, whichever is better, i will humbly report it as it is. We consumers work hard for our money and we hope our investments pay off, that our money is best spent on the top component in each price class :-) Whatever the result of the Rega Planar 3 vs the MoFi StudioDeck shoot-out, I hope you guys at MoFi will be cool about it too. As you can see in my comments here below to many friends here, I said that on initial impressions, I have been very, very impressed with what I see, feel with the StudioDeck. Extremely well-thought out and executed. The Black Brushed aluminium panel on the right, classy. It also extends below and rearwards to house the gold-plated RCA terminals. They black lid is rounded at all 4 top edges unlike Rega, and the 4 sides slope at an angle and not just perpendicularly down. The plinth's 4 sides go perpendicularly down and then is raked inwards to meet the 4 HRS-designed feet. Very well executed design, and not just any conveniently machined plinth and lid. Even the rear hinges behind, meet each other with a staggered sculptured "teeth". The cue lever has a good feel and the curved rubber has a chrome accent around it - very tastefully done. The Delrin platter is well sculpted as well. Top circular part sunk in, and the sides are curved in to house the belt. The feel is excellent :-D. Very, very well done! I will work on the sonics soon after I complete the MP-200 review, and also after Mr Trump and Mr Kim have finished their Summit here in Singapore :-D !!!
