One important thing about Hagerty: 1) you're supposed to have a dedicated garage for it 2) you aren't supposed to daily it to work or use it for errands 3) it's not supposed to be your primary car. If you were to use it for utility purposes or daily commuting and got in an accident, best case they might drop you moving forward, worst case they may deny your claim. Pretty much all classic car insurances are like this, it's part of the reason why owning some of these otherwise practical classic cars sucks because regular insurance won't pay out properly for damage/total and classic car is supposed to be for Boomers with garage queens for car shows and not real people. FYI, Grundy has way better pricing for similar, possibly better, coverage. Literally like $200 a year and even less for something cheaper like a kei truck.

I noticed you bought your Acty from Be Forward. I bought a Daihatsu Hijet mini truck from Be Forward on 8SEP22 and it finally arrived at the Newport News Marine Terminal on 8DEC22. My 1996 4WD Hijet is just slightly rougher on the outside than your Acty (slightly more surface rust in the bed) which didn't bother me because I"m going to "paint" it inside and outside with Monstaliner polyurethane bed liner. The inside of my Hijet is very nice other than missing headliner, and again, that gets a durable and easy to maintain bed liner finish. I only paid $265 for the truck ($2380 delivered to the port), but the clutch needed to be replaced. Glad I didn't try to drive it home from the port like you did! It was a 22 hour round trip with a trailer, through the curvy and mountainous West Virginia Turnpike, dense fog at night on the way to the port, and hard rain at night on the way home. I'm currently piddling my way through neglected maintenance by the previous farmer who knew he was going to sell it, as well as minor repairs and upgrades. It's my project truck and I have big plans for customizing it for its second life in the US. I saw a decent upgraded Acty sell on Bring A Trailer for $24,000. That's nuts. A decent mechanic could make a good living buying kei trucks from Japan and repairing and upgrading them for the US market. It's great that your right hand drive keitora helps with your injured shoulder. Shifting is no problem for me but I'm still in the early phase where I turn on the windshield wiper, then the left turn signal, and finally the right turn signal after I've already made the right turn. :-/

Great video! i’m actually going to be going thru the process of importing an acty van in the next 2-4weeks and am in jax. Could you do a short video on the process at the port and a little more breakdown on cost at jax port? would be a huge help for organization stuff before going thru with it. glad you uploaded and i found this today 😅

For any truck or cargo van 🚐 25 entry tax !!😢
@timotaneous3300 Жыл бұрын
What's 25 entry tax? Are you trying to say that the customs tax rate is 25 percent? If so, of what? The cost of the truck & shipping? Or just the truck. The only cost I heard was the unit plus shipping around $2,400 then there was $100 escort then there was customs but what was your cost & what was it based on. What was the total cost & time is what the people are looking for. There are ACTY here in Texas for $5K - $7K not sure if it would be a waste of time, just go get one. These units just came from China as well. Fresh off the boat. Just go to DMV & start enjoying the ride. Love yours. Blessings enjoy

Customs charges the protectionist 25% Chicken Tax on all imported light trucks. I only paid $265 for my 1996 4WD Hijet, so the ripoff tariff was only $66.25, but there are many other fees associated with the import process and it's a huge PIA. I recommend not even trying to import it entirely by yourself, but it's doable with an online import broker. I paid around $117.61 for Eezyimport to file the ISF with Customs, DOT HS-7, and EPA 3520-1. All in, including repairs and some minor (so far) upgrades, my $265 Hijet has cost me $3847.31. Fully pimped, it'll top out around $5000 plus sweat equity, and it'll be nicer IMO than an Acty that sold on Bring A Trailer for $24,000! Yowza! That's nuts!
