It's difficult to hear the ref but I believe the fault at 14:05 was because the ref called the score starting with "7". The player serving, in the white hat, thought he said "6" and served on the wrong side. When stacking, you have to keep track of your score, odd or even, to always know where you are supposed to be.

WOW Rory - you are right. Mark's backhand is wicked. I can't imagine having a shot like that in the arsenal. I don't know how you learn that shot. I think I heard he has over 35 years of table tennis experience. I'm not sure that shot can be mastered by us regular Joe's. I'm curious how you are trying to develop that shot? Where do you even start? Mark's ability to take that shot from below the net and lift it with spin - I've never faced someone who can hit that kind of shot (from the backhand side). I would avoid him like the plague if I were playing against him. Although his partner was mighty good as well. Hard to believe that was a consolation match. Would love to see the team that beat Mark and his partner. Those two are scary good. Great video analysis once again. -Eddie

Awesome, thanks for replying. I just have someone hit to my backhand while I'm standing at the nvz. I do it about 100 times. I actually was successful doing it four times today over two games. I failed three times. That is because I was in the right side court. Each time I hit it out wide. I need to realize I should only try it when I am in the left side court as I am a beginner.

If Mark can do this backhand flip this well with a hard faced P.B. paddle hitting a hard plastic ball , well then , his back hand shots in table-tennis, if using an inverted rubber paddle , must have looped the ball up and then downward again with tremendous " Killer " topspin . He would probably tell you that .

He was a top level table tennis player. That's all I know.

You have ignored Dave Weinbach, a world class senior player who plays with as much spin as Mark with a much higher level of consistency.

Dave has won gold medals at numerous tournaments during the last decade in the US Nationals, The US Open, Tournament of Champions, etc., and will almost certainly be inducted in the Pickleball of Fame in the near future. Another top senior with a table tennis background is Tao Thongvanh from Colorado who uses a lot of spin in his game. Btw - Ben Johns who is the GOAT also has a previous background in high level table tennis and tennis and one of his signature strokes is his backhand flick. You are probably new to pickleball if you’ve overlooked these players as they have several KZbin clips with some very good teaching hints.

There is no such thing as a backhand "flip" in pickleball. What is flipping? It's a backhand "flick". It is a deceptive shot where you flick your wrist to redirect the ball with topspin. Here is a great video kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqDFgIGcbNGUiaM
