This is a jolly thing for projects. If its a gadget with an internal mains linear PSU I like to swap like for like, but if on an external power brick then anything goes, and this is a good solution for it!

lead-free solder on the PCB, bump up the temp about 30 degrees , also swap the fuses as they are usually about 20amps, 2 or 3 amps is better, HTH

That must be a cheap knock off because the cheapest I could find was about $25 and if you want one that can handle 160 watt you have to pay about $46.

Is this not designed for a car with a high current 12v input? Your basic wall wart might struggle. :)

The car versions have a wider input range upto 14 or 28v. This one would need something like a laptop PSU for full current.

Metal rings (it looks like a metal ring) and voltage are never i great combination. Even if 12 volt won't kill you it can damage a lot of things.
