Picofly | Oled installation guide - Clone Mod chip

So decided to do an Oled install, if I am being honest I did a lot of reading beforehand and I did not like the sound of the install!
I was going to sell the Switch and not bother than decided to go for it!
It was a long install and it needed a lot of patience, would I do it again? Well I really would not rush to do it, it was one of the hardest I have done and there is so much that can go wrong. So anyone with little to no experience with micro soldering I would 100% say DO NOT DO THIS INSTALL!!!
I could not find a single video showing this chip or any details on how to install so had to do my best to see what I could do.
I did ask the seller to send installation instructions but they ignored me!
Also as noted in the video this came without software installed.

Doing this mod on an OLED switch takes some fucking balls if you don't do this sort of work everyday. Kudos on you taking on the task. Best video I have come across. Just got my OLED switch finished. V1 and V2 models are a cake walk compared to this. The best part was you installed a V5 kit like I have. These videos should discourage 98% of people from taking this on. This is NOT easy and I was successful. It is worth paying a professional $100 to do this for most people. Thank you for the great video!

Installed one of these for a customer today, install went smoothly and just like the video. Customer did provide a newer revision of the kit than the one installed in this video but soldering locations were the same only difference was the cable routing, but like I said it worked just the same so thanks for a simple guide that worked perfectly for my first time doing this Mod vs my norm which is repairing the console it’s self.

Hi, yes I saw a video showing taking the nand off and reballing with a wire running underneath? Also read a lot about reflowing. The modder sthetix said he used to reflow but thinks the balls have a chance of cracking over time so he does not recommend it anymore he just goes for the pushing and holding technique.

Bought a Switch Oled last year, I don't play it at all lol (games are expensive you know). I was thinking of this as my first big (or should I say small) soldering project. I have very little experience with soldering, although I do really wanna buy the appropriate tools and give it a shot. I'm totally aware that I have a big chance of ruining my Switch, but I don't really care (despite that I'll be practicing A LOT with SMD kits prior to this)

I'm trying to look for a Switch to just play downloaded games offline and after much searching, maybe it's my crappy English, I have not gotten conclusive answers. Does this allow you to download roms to play offline (any easier mod for that should one want to do it themselves otherwise? I've bought a few, some come pre installed with software, others don't. I normally just connect them all up to the switch and see if it displays no sd, if not it's easy to disconnect and plug into PC.

i have done on 3 v2 switches, one of them I slipped in the wifi capacitor on the left side of the shield that you have to remove, it was a headache to solder it again, but it worked!, im training to do on OLED systems, one day I will do it!

Depending on size of iron tip, I normally use around 330c but can go up to 380c if using a fine tip.

Glorious Video, just about to do my own Oled, watched numerous videos, practiced soldering on old electronics, but I have a question. When you solder the wire to contact C, you do it on the ribbon, others have done it to the board, is there any difference? Reason for the ask is that I had to re order a ribbon, when I was tinning the contacts, Point C came right off the ribbon... tested it with a multimeter and sure enough it was now garbage. So with my new ribbon on its way, is it necessary to put that wire onto the ribbon, or can I put it to the board? If you happen to know, great! if not no worries :) Really great video, I will be having it in front of me when new kit arrives :)

Question, are you able to boot into OFW/SYSMMC? I have the same kit as yours (Picofly Clone, V3 CPU Flex, and OLED V6 Motherboard Flex) and got it working, but it is unable to boot into OFW/SYSMMC, only getting a blackscreen after the Nintendo Logo. EMUMMC boots fine. [Fixed - Read More for how] Update: So after looking at threads on GBATemp, I decided to remove the Flex Cable and went straight with enamel copper wire on all the points. It works and now I can now boot into OFW/SYSMMC successfully. This is because my eMMC is SK Hynix and is apparently known to not play well with the provided Flex Cable.

I tried, I failed casualty on my hands :( - Took the mod off cleaned it up and it no longer works not powering on. If you just think you can do this please don't you probably can't once the harder shield comes off reality will hit you hard as it's tiny.

Thanks appreciate the response and the vote of confidence. I managed to cut the shielding around the nand chip but it took the feet off the bottom side from the pcb so this might have rendered the switch busted but my understanding is that is just for grounding. @@fixingmoddingbuilding

Idk this doesn’t look too hard. Just really small. But I just got a ts101 so this might be a great project for the ridiculously tiny tips I got for it. It seems like you need some pretty steady hands for this one.

If I had a better soldering iron at the time it might have gave me more confidence, I do have that soldering iron now and tiny tips but still not satisfied as the solder still rises up the tip and doesn't stay at the end, you might have more luck.

After 2-3 months after i modded my switch, it stopped booting into hekate and booted into OFW, the mod chip flashes 1 long yellow flash, and 1 short yellow flash. Is there anything that can cause this? I do not have autoboot on

No sorry only done one oled and won't be doing another! Maybe check no little chips have been knocked off, there used to be one on the v1 that regulated when it turned on by the connector on the motherboard.

Great video but I don't understand where does the green wire come from at 18:51 ? I see you connecting the first green wire from one point to the other but then you say shorten the green wire but I don't see where it's connected to? am I missing something?

The green wire comes from the connector that goes under the nand chip. When I first attach it its longer then needed, just need trimming when connecting.

Good news! I modded my switch but, the chip keeps flashing purple with no display, and it wont pop up on my computer so i think it has software on it. Edit, i got it to connect ONE time, and it says “USB device malfunction” My solder points look solid.

A cheap, variable temp one I bought off amazon years back so don't have any links

Id recommend getting a ts100 or a pinecil 64 or some other of that sort. Weller and hakko are also good. Also make sure your tip is tinned! thats the number one mistake.

Hello near the end of your switch v2 mod you use kefton tape I think it's called can I use ordinary cello tape to stop shorts or does it have to be kefton tape

Im assuming i shouldnt even attempt this with my nonexistent solder experience lol. *The only thing ive done is repaste my v1 switch with mx4, and my 60c temperatures didnt improve at all lol (though i did hear it can actually be better to remove the copper square, but im very hesitant)

I've done a bit of soldering and I didn't enjoy this and won't be doing another anytime soon! Taking the heat shield off and changing that thermal paste could help with the overheating

@@Anreii I always say you need to practice before just diving in. The v1/v2 mod chip is easy, but only if you can solder, if you can't solder it's still hard.

You lost me here. At 15:00 you soldered one end of a green wire to the pad you placed under the nand. Then at 18:00 you soldered the end of a green wire to a point on the circuit board. Then at 18:45, you soldered ANOTHER green wire to the mod chip?? Then at 19:30 you say to solder on the 'B' wire. But since you used green wire for all connections, it's not clear which green wire goes where? You really should color code when making videos or add better notes. It also looks like you're using thick plumbing solder instead of electrical solder, which is why your solder keeps globbing up.

It has got to be a solder joint? Could be the part is not pushed down enough behind the nand?

Check the fw is installed on the chip, check solder points, check the diode readings on the part that slides under the nand.

If I get an oled just to mod I am going to DESTROY it 😭 I think I have basic soldering supplies, but I have no idea what I'm doing. I'll need some of that tape and to make sure I have wicks and stuff. I will need a microscope. There is no way I'm getting a microscope... Do I need my own wires too? omg

I wouldn't recommend the install, I don't plan on doing another unless I bought a really cheap oled that I was going to keep.

@@fixingmoddingbuilding Yea, I bought some crappy rudimentary soldering supplies and decent solder and decided to put it on hold for a bit, and I'll buy a switch oled later and a breadboard or whatever just to get slightly comfortable soldering. These videos are very useful and interesting.
