I'm a little disappointed that this song doesn't seem to have many theories about its meaning, and I scoured the comments here and on Eve's cover. I've seen a couple of guesses, but they all seem to miss the mark. My personal interpretation, even though its a little generic and predictable, is that its about substance abuse. I have a theory that involves a series of events. That's taking into account both the lyrics and the animated video. The most obvious lyrical reference to substance abuse would be the lines about brains; 0:25 "My dried up brain seems to be in a playful city [so I threw it away]", 1:36 "That brain that came out of my body [burned and roasted]" Both these lines seem to represent drug usage. The first line implying use of stimulants, hence the playful city comment. The second line implies burnout; "burnout" is common slang for someone who smokes weed. With weed being a stimulant, it ties back into the first verse's mention of brains. Additionally, I think the lines about drinking detergent is just a metaphor for alcohol. With that established, there's a vague timeline in place here. The fact that the singer references room 10884 is definitely significant. I'll assume for the sake of argument that its a hotel room. Specifically, I want to highlight this lyric: 2:10 "Even when I think about it now, I remember it with fish eyes", 2:22 "Dancing in the room number 10884" This implies that something took place in the room. Given the themes of drugs and alcohol in the song, I agree with other theories that maybe a death or serious injury happened. Many people party in hotel rooms, and there's been cases of drunk people falling from balconies in high hotel rooms for example. There's a few lines that could support this if you read them with this context in mind. 0:44 "What use is remembering and crying over it now?", 0:46 "I've gotten used to goodbyes" In addition, I think the apple in the music video represents life. Others have said a heart, its basically the same idea, but I was thinking more like Adam's apple. Either way, it supports the death theory due to parts of the animation like 1:15, and the apple imagery in general which is rampant in the music video. Assuming this theory is correct, we can say the singer/narrator felt guilt and depression after the event in the hotel room. The line 1:25 "A tandem that serves me right," supports this, as the way its used in context implies the consequence of an action. There's a lot of lyrics that could symbolize depression, here are just a few: 1:30 "...indifferently getting by with an amygdala that only takes things lightly", 1:56 "Everyday had been shitty, somehow its just the same as sleeping" The amygdala is the part of your brain that processes emotion. People with depression often feel emotionally numb, and don't experience emotion in a strong manner. (source: myself). Additionally, people who are depressed tend to sleep. Like, a lot. (source: I sleep upwards of 13 hours some days). That's all I got for now. I think its an interesting theory.

thank you so much, I don't see a lot of comments talking about theories or interpretations of the lyrics very often, I was actually looking for some when I found this really well put together interpretation, even if it'll always be up in the air, this just has enough to make me believe it as the best I can agree with, wish your comment had more attention! not often someone puts the time in to think about this stuff so I'm grateful

全体的な曲のバランスが絶妙に取れすぎてる。何回も聴いてしまう。 ほんとに中毒性高い…。 特に、dancing in the room. No.10884のとこが何回も聴けば聴くほど癖になる。
2:23秒の「DANCING IN THE ROOM」が「どうせずぶ濡れなんだ」に聴こえる不思議……

This song is seriously so touching and beautiful in so many ways. It's kinda sad but comforting at the same time. The way you use Mikus voice, the experimental yet beautiful instrumental,... Thank you so much for creating this piece, I'm gonna hold this song dear for a very long time and I'm looking forward to your next songs!

Yeh whats the style or genre of this song and u know any others like this?
AMAZING. Thought I was listening to some future bass or R&B at first but it quickly turned into one of the most novel and catchy vocaloid songs I've ever listened to. The vocal work is sublime, I love the flow and tuning. Reminds me a bit of PinocchioP's stuff except more chill.

The lyrics feel relatable and familiar, the beat is contagious, and the video is gorgeous. It’s perfect.
The song and the music video are both amazing. But I feel mesmerized by the animated sequence that happens between 0:53 and 1:07, it's just so beautifully crafted! And it blends so well with the music too! I love it!
