I had no idea that computer animation went back so far. My mind is blown!

These animations look very modern, I wouldn't have thought they were from the 1920's-40's!

Your videos that I've seen so far, this and "remember the calming aesthetic of the 1990s" are some premium quality stuff! Keep up the good work. This video alone has opened my eyes up to a while history of animation and vintage aesthetics I never knew existed. Thank you!

this and part 2 are more or less like an abridged version of my 'history of media art' class my freshman year of college (minus all the performance/video-art stuff, but still). super awesome

Oh, and I was lucky enough to know John Whitney (he was a teacher at UCLA at the time when I had my small video studio in LA - he was an influence)

Thx for posting this great pioneer overview. What's the background tune? Sounds like something straight out of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. 😉

Hi! Sorry, just a quick doubt- What's the difference between the first computer-generated animation and the first digital animation? Isn't John Whitney's work considered digital? (also lovely, LOVELY series)

Animations yes but not all created with computers
@rickriffel62463 жыл бұрын
Those animations done in 1942 had nothing to do with computers. What ever digital devices had existed then were not capable of visual graphics. However, these 1942 films must have been hand-made with the utilization of mathematics and geometry.
@k.umquat86042 жыл бұрын
Those animations were done by *analog* computers,not digital ones.Analog computers had already existed for a century by then.
