Yeah in America the peoples views aren't always held with respect in government and decriminalizing weed is one of them. We live in a system where prisons are privatize and therefore there are a lot of people that make more money the more prisoners they have. Them and the drug companies that sell anti anxiety pills, antidepressants pills, painkillers, Xanax, which people take regularly as a way to cope with issues (we get the irony, by the way if that's a choice someone wants to take weed if far less harmful and more stable than prescription drugs) they lobby against the legalization or decriminalization of weed because they stand to lose money and since they already have deep pockets they buy votes by throwing money in a thousand different ways that make it legal and not seem like corruption. What you ask was not a dumb question, the respond and the reason it's like that that's the dumb part.
