I love Pictured Rocks. Been going there 3+ decades, most recently this past June with my daughter Aspen. (Check out our video on our channel.) You guys did a good job capturing the trail at Pictured Rocks. My favorite time to backpack there is September when mosquitoes are not as bad and kids are in school. Chapel is beautiful, but very popular with day hikers and pontoon boat renters. You were curious why Chapel River is so warm at the mouth, I speculate it is because it comes from Chapel Lake where the sun warms it. Plus anything seems warm compared to Superior, it's all relative. Thanks for sharing, great video!

Very beautiful! I am in the planning stages of a trip there. I have sites at Au Stable, Beaver Creek, and Mosquito River. Do you roughly remember how long it took you to hike mph? All the videos I see make it seem very flat, If that true I should be able to do around 2-3mph. Any other tips to prepare me? I have been told to wake up early the second day and eat breakfast at the Au Stable Lighthouse.. I am pretty excited!
@BackpackerBrothers3 жыл бұрын
I should be able to hike that pace, it is actually on the easier side of trails. That said, our day 3 felt pretty dang long and it would be more enjoyable to do the trip in 4 days. For prep, I always recommend SHT!

At 15:13 that cliff in the distance, our summer camps tradition is to jump off into the water (50+ feet) and swim to the beach. Crazy adrenaline pump!

Nice video. What are the logistics around parking and getting back to your car? Park at the end and get a ride to the start, or park and the start and get a ride back? Any tips are appreciated.
@BackpackerBrothers4 жыл бұрын
There is a shuttle service that we used. We parked at the end point and got that ride to the start point. You just have to book it ahead of time. Not the cheapest ride you’ll ever catch, but well worth it.

Hey I was wondering what dates you guys went? The weather seemed perfect for you guys and am trying to avoid stable fly season
@BackpackerBrothers3 жыл бұрын
We went in mid June. Weather was nice but there were bugs at some of the campsites. Far less bugs on the breezy and open beach. Just be prepared with long sleeves, a bug net, and deet. You can also try treating your gear ahead of time with permethrin.

Awesome video! What program did you use for showing the progress on the trail with the red line? I'd like to copy the idea! Doing this hike in 3 days 21 hours.

Thanks for sharing, it’s looks stunning! How far is the beach from the trailhead?
@BackpackerBrothers5 жыл бұрын
Not far, I forget the exact mileage but it only took us a couple hours of hiking to get to the first shoreline section. But you can always reach the beach from other access points that basically go right up to it. Check out a map from the NPS website!

Did you use a shuttle service or did both of you drive separate? I was just wondering how the logistics worked on getting back to your car.
@BackpackerBrothers3 жыл бұрын
Yes, we used a shuttle service. Left our car at the end point and got a ride to our start point.
Enjoyed it! Did you guys get a shuttle from the trail end to the trail start? I know the SHT has a shuttle service, does this trail?
@BackpackerBrothers6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, glad you liked it! Yep, there is a shuttle service called Trailspotters. We parked at the Munising Falls Visitor Center and took the shuttle to the other end. It was about a 50 min drive and the person who drove us was awesome!

Did you guys use a shuttle service to drop you off? Is that run through the park service?
@BackpackerBrothers4 жыл бұрын
Yep we did use a shuttle service. It’s not really affiliated with the NPS but the park website does link to it. It’s called Altran.
Pete used to rock the shades, now he's got the stache! The burger works are the best. Did you put them in tortillas or jus eat them out of the bag? What's the next trip for you guys?

Were the hiking trails busy that time of year?

It wasn't too bad at all. We saw some people near the more popular areas close to parking lots and such, and we shared a campsite one night, but other than that it was a pretty solitary experience.
@ryankelly19885 жыл бұрын
Where is the area at the 10min 15sec part of the video? I want to see it in person.
@BackpackerBrothers5 жыл бұрын
We don’t have a waypoint or anything for it, but you should be able to watch the route animation and see where about halfway was on that day and get close.
