First of all I would like to thank Picube for giving me the chance to test their premium MGC Square-1 with edge magnets!
If interested, you can buy this exact cube here:

Review: When I first unboxed this cube, there were a few things I saw wrong with this cube. It was just different than what I remember feeling from other square-1s before.
My first thoughts were that it was too slow, but in a weird way. The U/D layers seemed very fast to just casually turn, but were almost sluggish when I started to do full speed solves.
I also realized that I didn’t see any extra magnets in the equator when I took the caps off to tension it.
This was odd to me because every other magnetic sq-1 I’ve seen or heard of, always has had these extra magnets to help define the edge magnets.
One thing I also did was remove the spring and washer from the screw and replaced it with Maglev magnets from one of my other cubes, and immediately started to see some improvement.
I did some setup and messed around with tensions and started to get closer to my regular times.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
This will likely be a good backup option for me, but it just personally doesn’t fit my solving style like my current main does.
In my opinion, this is a very solid option for an MGC square-1 with edge magnets. I believe that this is the cheapest cube you can get with these mods, and it will likely fit the majority of turning styles. Of course there are limited options for modded MGCs, so this being on the cheaper end is great.
TLDR: Cube is great, but needs some changes. When it’s all said and done, I think it’s a great option for all square-1 solvers at ANY speed, it’s just not for me at this moment.
I’ll do some more experimenting with this cube in the future, huge thanks again to Picube for sending me this to test!
