Where you started the video is actually Taylorsville and where you turned is the community of Musick you never reached Pie. I know I was raised there and born there as well. Lived there until I was 14 years old Pie Church of God is not in Pie, WV.

R.A. West was one of the greatest ministers and Men of God in our generation. May he rest in peace and blessings on his family. You turned around in Jay Michael Mart, which was owned by the West family. Thanks for the video! I was at that meeting in Fort Pierce, Florida. It was the very first service I ever went to outside of the Catholic Church! Completely transformed my life! I thank God for R.A. West!!!!

Thanks for the video. Leander Blankenship was my grandfather. It's true that he loved pies but how he got known for loving pies was he had a second hand store and some people couldn't pay with money so he would tell them to bring him a pie for trading. That's how he got known for loving pie. I guess he helped a lot of people out when they needed it. Sadly, I never got to meet him because he passed away a few years before I was born. He's buried up Little Muncy Hollow in Pie.

If you go in just a little further before you turned around you are the best for my uncle Thurman Lester lived for many years. Original house they lived in it was a four room frame house built by WM Ritter timber Company in the 1880s. Then red jacket call loaned it when my uncle bought it. I think he was the last man in West Virginia to technically free range Carol… He always had a milk cow that roamed free back in that holler. If it got too close to the road my uncle would go out on the porch, pump up His BB gun and pop the cow on the butt. She just look at them annoyed and trudge back away from the road

I live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. We had those bus stop huts everywhere up until the early 1990's when they stopped using bus stops and the school buses started stopping at each individual house. The huts were built and maintained by local companies that would paint their advertisements on the side of the hut. It was a win - win for everyone. The kids got a place out of the elements and the companies got some good roadside advertising.

Delbarton being my home town(2nd William Ann Camp), I am familiar with this area. you started the video at Jack Carroll's gas station, with in eye sight was Rita's Little Dinner, with in eye sight from there is 52 Hardware. Brenda Rife's Husband (Hello Brenda) can Surely show or tell ya about any part of the area or anyone , very knowledgeable about the area and it's people. At 4:25 on the left is the Furniture Factory that John F Kennedy had built in the 60's as part of the war on poverty. The road just after this building by the telephone poles goes across Mystery Mountain and comes out at the old public swimming pool, just before ya get to old Island Creek # 24 & 25 mines. If I remember correctly at 9:08 was another Restaurant.

Pie Church is not in Pie, WV. At that School shed, you need to go up the creek about 2 miles to be in Pie, WV. The community of Pie built that church down there at Varney, WV because the land was given to them. I was mostly raised up here and lived here as an adult for a few years between Varney and Pie (in Music, WV.) I was a member of the R.A. West Church when he died. I'm still local but I live on another creek.

Hey Brother...commented last nite on one of your vids. You are in my house in this one. Soooo I'll tell you all about it being you're about a mile south of my home. 1:27 is/was a family furniture factory. If I remember right it was H&H... Could be wrong, and prolly am lol. I still have a dresser I bought there in 1984. The building to the right at 1:31 was a Gulf service station when I was growing up. It was owned by Jack Carroll. If you look to the right (facing the building) he and his wife lived over top of those last 2 bays, and finally in about 85 or so, built the house beside the station. That building across the road was storage for the furniture business. As you swing your camera around, when your car comes into view...that church you see used to be "The Man's Lodge"... Never really knew what that meant. Went to some BD parties there and we used to have our scout meetings there. If you look right of the church, you'll see a tan colored building. That was a Sunoco station, and the owners lived on top of it. Varney grade school, just like all the other schools in southern Wv that are closed/have been consolidated, is full of asbestos, so the school board has given it back to the family who donated the land back in the day, and that kept the state from bearing the cost of the asbestos removal and put it on the family. When you're leaving the school and turning left, there is a sign on up the road that says Pie unincorporated. At 3:55 you comment you believe you hit Pie...you have not, your fixin' to go by the Varney post office on the left where that church is. At 4:27, to the left, is Mystery Mountain, and you are correct that ALL of Varney/Pie are not coal camps. From where you started this video, all the way south on 52 the only mines were up Mystery Mountain. At 4:41, you'll see a driveway on the left goin' up to a house and 2 trailers...bought a lotta pot there back in the day ;). At 5:20, you can see all those portapottys on the right...That's Bearcat Marcum...been in the septic business since I was a child. At 6:24, to the right is Sheppards Drive-In. Back in the day, they had really good greasy cheeseburgers and hotdogs...and the had a pond out back where you could pay 5 bucks an drink beer and fish all night. At 7:35, yes that is a bus shelter to keep the rain off of em. At 7:41, if you had kept goin' up that holler, you'd have dead ended at my wife's aunts house lol. At 8:47 the answer is yes, from my house to the "head" of the creek, which you was almost at, is referred to as pigeon creek. At 9:29, you mention you're a little outside of Delbarton, which is correct. Where you are is about 10 miles south of Delbarton, but, you're also about 10 miles from Red Jacket, and maybe 12 miles from Matewan. At 12:12, if you'll look to the right at that building, I used to date a girl that lived in the upper section of it...At 13:44, where those trailers are, there used to be the Linmar Motel, and it had a bar in there, and there were many killings in that bar all through my life. I had friends killed there, and I had friends that killed folks there. It was a bad place to be from Friday evening till 2 AM Sunday mornin'. Ay 14:11, on the left is Wilson Trucking, and he had many coal trucks and they hauled coal for over 50 years. Wilson lived in the red brick house on the right. At 14:22, on the right used to be a restaurant back in the 70's. I remember eatin' there on a very few occasions. At 19:38...Brother, all I can say about R.A. West....is he was a fraud, and his son runs that ministry now, and he's a fraud also. That's all I'm gonna say bout him. He died in a motorcycle crash right there in Pie, right above his church. At 19:39, to the left, was Eddie Hilbert's mining repair. He rebuilt mining equipment. He later bought the sheriffs office for 100K, and eventually got caught up in the notorious 1985 FBI sting. At 20:50, you're showing R.A. West's house. When you pulled off at that First Baptist Church, if you had went a lil' deeper in the curve and turned left on that gravel road you would have went to the church that you see across the creek at 20:24 beside the mountain. That's his church he started. At 21:20, to the right, is the Jay Michael quick stop, which is R.A.'s son. At 21:46, to the right, is the road that went to R.A.'s church, which I see you turned on. Hope you enjoyed the detail, I could do soooo many more comments of this. Thanks for posting it.

He may have literally not known that it was a bad check and didn’t know he didn’t have the money at that very second. I know firsthand that a lot more went out (and still goes out) of the ministry than what comes in

When I went to school in the sixties we had those. We called them bus houses. l spent a many minute standing in one waiting on the school bus they were great for keeping you dry out of the rain and snow. A Halloween trick was to turn them over. Most of them are gone now. Tokens from a simpler time.

At the 19:51 Mark you will see two houses on your left, the closest to the camera is my nephews house and the furthest from the camera is my home I grew up in built in 1980 by my mom and dad. My dad is a Justice and his mom was a Varney, hence 'VARNEY' WV because of the Varney clan. Jim Varney (ERNEST goes to camp) is my Granny's 2nd cousin and my 4th cousin. His grandpa and my Granny's dad (my great grandpa) were brothers.

I grew up listening to RA West and still listen to him on KZbin. I've often wondered about details of his death and was wondering if someone could tell what happened that day? He truly done a great work for God and is still a blessing to me. Thanks to anyone who could let me know what happened to this great Jesus man.
