When you’re sitting in the last car, you’re hearing the circulation of air passing through the train and through the vents near the bottom on the floor. You can hear the same sound in the head car when the train comes to a stop - as the circulation of air does the same thing in reverse with the forces of the train slowing to a stop. The first and last cars do not have motors on them - the motors are throughout the rest of the train.
