@Tigermaster19862 жыл бұрын
There wouldn't be "John Wick" without "Drunken Master". Think of this - "Drunken Master" was directed by Yuen Woo Ping. It was his first real hit as a fight choreographer and a director. If it weren't for this movie, he probably wouldn't work on "The Matrix" two decades later. Chad Stahelski, the director of "John Wick", was Keanu Reeves' stunt double in "The Matrix", where he worked with Yuen Woo Ping. If it weren't for "Drunken Master", Yuen wouldn't work on "The Matrix". If he hadn't worked on "The Matrix", Stahelski wouldn't meet him and learn from him, and he wouldn't make "John Wick".

In the 1970's The Chinese Student Association showed a delightful movie called "Snake Fist". It was a lot like "The Karate Kid" But the master was killed by "The Eagle Claw", because the snake can never win against the eagle. The young student could only hide and brood until one day, his cat killed a bird and that inspired him to invent his own "Cat Paw" style which he used to defeat the eagle.

It was 1978 or 9. The movie was made in China, in Chinese, for a Chinese audience, and I wouldn't know Jackie Chan's face 'till long after I had forgotten all of them from that movie. I don't remember if many of the subtitles were legible, but I made careful note that the title of the movie was translated (on screen) as "Snake Fist". Maybe another edition could have been made for the big American audience? The title you mentioned would make sense and Jackie would have been in his 20's. When the old master met the student, he challenged him to take a bowl of soup from him. They were in an alley, and the old guy protected his soup by running up the walls and doing flips and rolls and never spilled a drop. Later the camera showed a close-up of the student's face and hands as he did push-ups on his finger tips on the tops of poles. When he reached a point where he couldn't go up any more, the camera panned back to show the master sitting on his back, smoking a pipe. Then he took the pipe and touched it to the under side of the kid's belly, and got him to continue with his push-ups. I would be very pleasantly surprised if someone would recognize this as a movie available here in the US.
