Its not similar to the other poly myths because it was the original. As you follow the migrations, tagaloa’s importance fades until the final stop in hawaii where instead of being the supreme go, he is just one of the 4 main gods. 🤙🏽

Did the ancient Samosns pray to Tagaloa, or was he simply a creator that existed w/o worship?
@Mythlok5 ай бұрын
Well... As the Samoans were known to worship atuas or ancestorial spirits, it would be difficult to say if there was actual worship of Tagaloa who was predominantly a creator god. However, there are groups today who actually worship Tagaloa.

That’s what they used to worship before Christianity

I don't see Tagaloalagi as a God or mythical/religious character, I can depict that the fact that Tagaloalagi as a Main Ancestor to all Polynesians, since he was featured not only in the Samoan oral tradition but also others including: Tangaroa, Takaroa, Tagaroa, Ta'aroa, Tagroa Siria, Tangaloa, Tana'oa, Taka'oa, Kanaloa.

Very true... He does have counterparts in other Polynesian cultures.

i read an amazing article in reddit let me paste it. it actually blows my mind right now : If you correlate the proximity of those countries and our genepool relation to them, you cant deny the factt that maybe it has some truth, and the word tagaloa is so close to tagalog, fyi, before the philippines became "philippines" the chinese call our country mayi, mai, which means the landnof the savages which closely resembles to "maui" the central part of hawaii.. and fyi pacific islander languages are distant cousins of tagalog and various languages of our country.. you cant deny that maybe i can be right.. if you look at the malagasy of the people of africa our language is related to themand some.of them are malay looking people, the thing is the malagasy.people are so faf to the philippines yet they are classified as an austronesian decent, (pcfc islanders,malay,indo,polynesian,malagasy)..

Sāmoa is actually named after Āmoā Lagituaiva daughter of Tagaloalagi and wife of Lū Fasiaitu Tutuila was the hub of worship for Tagaloas twin daughters TAEMĀ and TILAFAIGĀ who is also the mother of the war goddess Nāfanua

@Mythlok Actually there is not one uniform way of creation. Each island, village and even each family can have a different chant passed down. Tasilua's interpretation is not accepted or retold by all.

@@Mythlok The above is incorrect. Samoa is named after the first born of Tagaloa named MOA. SA means family/Clan in Samoan. Moa is the family name of the Tuimanu'a. Moa was also the first Tuimanu'a. Hence Samoa is the FAMILY of MOA. Moa also means 'Centre' in Samoan language.
@Mrkovana5 күн бұрын
I know this is late. But I dont think this is correct. Tagaloa had 2 sons. The firstborn was MOA. The 2nd born was Lu (the 1st). Lu fasiaitu is Lu's (the First) son. Therefore Lu Fasiaitu is the nephew of Moa (the firstborn of Tagaloa). Keep in mind this is the UPOLU version of how Samoa got its name. The Manu'a legend is that Tagaoloa's first son MOA (AGAIN NAMED MOA), was injured during childbirth (hence how Manu'a got it's name. Manu'a means 'wound' in Samoan). Tagaloa then named him Moa because he could see his 'centre' (Tata le Moa) was still breathing (Moa also means 'Centre' in Samoan). And then gave him the title of the Tuimanu'a and all the Islands surrouding him (Upolu etc) were under his supervision... Therefore the Family of Moa... SAMOA. Please remember SA means family/clan/sacred in Samoan.

As a samoan i could never understand why our legends are deemed myths.. when science is teaching this. 😂 Ps. Tagalolagi is not a human or being but source of energy/creation. We only associate male aspect due to energy. Tagaloalagi is not the same as our other gods/aitu/demi and spirit.
@Mythlok6 ай бұрын
Interesting to know about the deity being a source of energy. Also we get this thing about myths from people of all cultures and we say the same thing. We use the word for the lack of another alternative. "mythology" doesn't mean false teachings. It refers to a body of exoteric stories passed down to allow common (meaning non-priestly) people to understand, contextualize, and relate to the gods.
