I've NEVER in my life been to the beach, (I'll be 26 when we go) and this July my husband and I are going to Panama. I am super excited and I definitely want to do this. Even if we don't catch a fish, just seeing the water and possibly dolphins will be good enough for me.

You will enjoy it. Just be prepared to have sand in everything you own....lol In Panama City Beach go check out St. Andrew State Park at the end of Thomas Drive. I think you will really enjoy it.

I fished this pier and worked the tackle shop when it first opened The middle had a bathroom and a T was at the end. I had a lot more fun with the tourist than the entitled locals. Largest King I caught there was 39.5 lbs.

No point in killing the Bonito unless you need it for shark bait. You DO NOT want to eat a Bonito.

wonderful video, thank you for sharing your visit to the pier. I work here and enjoy seeing people's excitement when they experience the gulf and see things for the first time. There is always something exciting to see on any given day. From dolphins, to manatees, to Baskin Sharks. We hope to see you return and get more great videos and photos.

It actually is a tuna. It is mistakenly called "bonito" in the gulf coast region (that's what I've always called them) but is actually a Little Tunny (Euthynnus alletteratus), the most common type of tuna in the Atlantic basin. Great video, BTW, I really enjoyed it.
@t.j.livingston97588 жыл бұрын
Thanks, and thanks for the info. I looked up the (Bonito) fish, it said it was in the mackerel family. These do look just like little Tuna. Thanks for the Clarification , now I know.

The "bonito" in the gulf coast is actually in the tuna family. The are aptly called, "false albacore" and the bonito caught in the atlantic ocean are in the mackerel family.
@tdfsu17 жыл бұрын
Gordon Gonzo that's only partially true. While the Atlantic bonito is a mackerel and is mostly found in the Atlantic, it does occur in the gulf. Conversely, the little tuny (false albacore) occurs in abundance in not only the gulf but also the Atlantic all the way to New England.

Appreciate the video T.J. - There is a lot for people to do here.. Was told that's the second longest pier in the Unites States reaching out on the Gulf of Mexico. A good walk for sure! :) The 'NON GANGSTER'S' take their fishing seriously.

Vacation Place Rentals We are 1500', a twin to the city pier acrossed the street from Pier Park. Both were rebuilt at the same time by the same contractor. when you reach the end, you are 30' above the water and the depth is approximately 27'. It was built with wood pallets to which we call blow outs. in the event of large storm surges, the individual pallets blow out to prevent structural damage to the pier. It is capable of withstanding cat5 hurricanes and vehicle worthy for emergencies. Hope you all enjoy your visit.
