Look up the Saturn RC rocket that thing is huge.
@chezman38926 ай бұрын
@@cindysue5474 Yes the Saturn 5 is big, my brother and I built the kit. But this shuttle far outshines the Saturn 5 as far as realism goes, this is VERY similiar in motion and actions to an actual shuttle launch.

I am 60 years of age and have flown many model rockets in my time , but this was by far the best flight I have ever seen , beautiful with the detaching boosters , oh did I mention I've worked on the space shuttle program for 5 years. Very well done ! Congrats !!. Sound would have been a nice added touch !

Hi Joseph! Thanks :-) It is a pleasure to get such comments from someone that worked on the real stuff!! About sound , I use high speed camera to record the video. This unfortunately don't record the sound. But next flight I'll use a second normal camcorder so it will be available.

Tell me about it that was very realistic, I loved it. I thought it would go to shoot off like a like the model rockets do. But that thing took off nice and slow reached a certain altitude and even released on...... Don't know what they're called so I'll just call him boosters to get the rocket off the ground. That's pretty much what's used. And then the big booster is to get the shuttle the rest of the way up into orbit.
@frosteazzzisgod52435 жыл бұрын
Yeah
@Cleptro4 жыл бұрын
@@DavidWilliams-mo6dj The white rockets are SRBs, short for Solid Rocket Boosters, while the orange stage is the ET, or external tank. Unlike the SRBs, which get the shuttle up to a certain speed, the ET is literally a massive fuel tank meant to keep the orbiter fueled for the majority of its ascent. Fun fact, it actually feeds the engines a different fuel than what the orbiter actually stores in its internal fuel reserves.

I had the same kit in 1986 when Challenger blew up I was in 7th grade. That spring we were doing rocketry in science class. I stuck a m80 firecracker in mine and it blew up . I got suspended from school and a good ole ass beating from dad because we spent a lot of money on the kit.. no one thought it was funny also. The principal asked why I put the m80 in it and I replied I wanted it look realistic!
@deutscheshygiene-institut80915 жыл бұрын
I buildt rockets myself when I was 14, some of them flew up more than 100 Meters. The (slow!) start of this Space Shuttle is the most demanding challenge - any tiny little disharmony in the Shuttle's rockets, and the whole thing will go anywhere. It is really nice to see it working, in fact the slow beginning is a miracle. Next time you fly you may land a little bit closer, so we can see the Shuttle in larger scale. Thank you for such highlight!

loved how it took off slowly, like the real rocket, great touch.
@BruceHurley3 жыл бұрын
Actually, there's nothing slow about real rockets. They just look slow because of their size. The Saturn V, for instance, hit 125 in 5 seconds, 250 in 10 seconds and 750 in 30 seconds. But you're right that this launch looked more realistic because the scale speed of most hobby rockets is way faster than large-scale rockets.

Hi Jim, yes of course. As you know, Space shuttle has not a good aerodynamics. Shuttle itself is a sort of lifting body designed to return from orbit to ground in a controlled way. It works more like a guided bomb than a pure glider. So to develop the model we had to work on 3 phases: 1) Allow the Shuttle a decent gliding capability keeping original shape. 2) Allow stability of the full stack up during thrust and ascending phase 3) Create the system to detach boosters, allow stability when boosters are detached. To do that several models have been made. In this channel, with the name Shuttle2, you find videos of the model made for phase 2. The current one is of course Shuttle3. Shuttle2 was a challenge, trials and errors have been made. Fins lay-out, cg cp position, thrust balance need precise configuration and calculations.
@jimhiscott29184 жыл бұрын
@@PieroAcme Outstanding! Phase 3 was so realistic. I very much enjoyed your venture. I am 54 and a 40 year RC veteran and understand the challenges you must have gone through to reach this success. I wouldn't be surprised if you haven't been approached by the movie industry for some reason to duplicate a model shuttle launch for a film. As I said, Everything went so perfect in phase 3. In slow motion it looks incredibly realistic. I am very impressed. Consider maybe NASA's x15 program. @panda44r my jaw dropped when it started to roll. Even if it didn't complete it or even if that partial roll was not intended or deliberate i was awestruck.

PieroAcme, Please do me a favor and email me at bucksbigworld@aol.com. I have a new Mr. Roger's-type children's educational television program broadcast on the Kentucky Educational Television network. I am researching s show about model rockets and would LOVE to show your video to kids as an example of "Advanced Model Rocketry". Are you ok with that? Email me and share with me how you got started and any tips you think I should teach kids! Thanks! Buck

Beautiful launch and return. This was so realistic to the actual shuttle.
