Hi Guy! You can use the La Lune with water and with oil. In Germany I use paraffinum oil. I don't know what you call it in the US. You can also use honing oil that you use for Arkansas stones. The result after honing with oil is absolutely fantastic. The edge is then really incredibly smooth and sharp. The La Lune is really the best stone I have.

Good to hear. Sometimes we use a high grade mineral oil for knives but I have never tried it on a straight..I look forward to making some adjustments on my previous stones to get even better results. Thanks for your advice!

@@guysolis5843 Just try using oil on the La Lune. There is also a video on KZbin of DrMatt using oil on the La Lune just for the finish.

@@barryallen1977aA I should try that. I did see Dr Matt using oil before..

I honestly have only used an old swaty to maintain my razors for three years. It’s all I’ve needed. And these new la lune hones aren’t the real ones from decades ago.

Perhaps not, it is a man made stone, I only use the straight to cut in my 'stache and burns. I did directly use a straight fresh off the hones, finishing with the La Lune, to comfortably remove my beard. Like I said, there are different techniques for honing that may gain better results. I've had weeper problems and will soon switch to an electric razor but, again, using the straight to cut in said facial hair..thanks for the input. Finish stones have always been my nemesis!

I have three of these Hones and never found them to be that great.

After lapping my stones and using a 16k Chinese blue to finish off the La Lune, I get decent edges but I use either a 5k and a 10k Kramer before it or a 4, 8, and 10k Shapton Glass and have to play with the progression according to the different steels but being careful to not over hone.

@@guysolis5843 there is the La line that says “special only for good razors” but that’s a completely different type of rock, it looks like glitter in the surface. Have tried that one yet .

Thanks Roy, I try real hard not to collect stones but the 20k Suehiro is one I've been thinking about lately. I sold it last year..good evening, sir!

Hi Guy, I thought you got rid of your Kramer stones.. I hope they shave well.
@guysolis5843 Жыл бұрын
I tried to but I guess I was asking too much for them. I noticed they did come down in price, about $100 each..I got a much better shave than off of my Jnat..

You should try the 5k with slurry and then water.

What kind of tape is that you are using to protect the spines?

Kapton Tape, I think it's 3/4..

Cape has got that finest Swedish steel which I find really makes for fantastic shaves. These days that’s about all I buy are SR similar.
