The Obsession album was so conceptually cohesive, and this song especially lent itself to the overarching good vs evil/dark vs light/alter ego themes. It’s so unique, how it goes back and forth between the airy anticipation and uncanniness, and the dark, grungy, and foreboding. It’s hard to pick favourites on such a solid album, but Jekyll is extra special. Would love to see you react to this entire album!! D.O (and Xiumin!) was doing his compulsory military service when this album was released unfortunately. His voice was missed on all of these tracks, especially Ya Ya Ya!! In the original story, Dr Jekyll did indeed create a serum or potion which he drank in order to turn into Mr Hyde so your feeling of being on a drug is not far off. I love this song so much and how it fits in with the rest of the Obsession album.

This is for those who can comprehend the story....many new reactors don't even know the Jekyll and Hyde novel, leading them to not get the gist of the madness portrayed, and not appreciating the shouting out chorus, which for me, is genius in itself. And the smooth comeback verse is creepy and foreboding, with a creepy suspenseful feel to it...and I'm glad you get the whole vibe Pierre, exactly the way I felt the song when I first heard it. Some get it, some don't....those that don't seem to feel an awkwardness towards the song as a whole, and from what they already know of Exo, detach totally from the song, and don't like it. They would not know what you and I know and appreciate Pierre, and I don't have the patience to explain it to them. Don't get me wrong though, there are many who absolutely get it and LOVE everything about it, thank God. This album is of course the "Obsession" album, where the creepy doppelgangers of each member are called X-Exo, the bad influencers who want to cripple our lovely Exo members with temptations and bad characteristics of the human trait, something we all go through. In "Obsession" mv, the black outfitted Exo members are fighting with their X-Exo selves, and "Jekyll " is within the same vein on the album. This album featured only six members, as the other were in military service. These 6 members carried the album, mv, and even concert tours all with 6. All I can say is, can you imagine what X-D.O., X-Xiumin, and X-Lay would look like if they were there? What would their creepy counterpart look like? And how would they sound? I wish I could see that. 💙🌺

The lyricist of this song and album deserves a Grammy. Infact whole album. So creative concepts and the lyrics perfectly depict the obsession, a trap, a person with depression can relate to it or a possessed person. Either with supernatural things, or their own negative thoughts.

You nailed it about the the creepiness of the instrumentals and longing in the voices. It really pushed at Jekyll and Hyde feel. Let me tell you something, you are now my favourite EXO-L because of "Where is my penguin?"🥰 That´s the sweetest thing I´ve ever heard 😅 (he was on the military s.) "They are on Koko Bop".. could be, but I´ve read that this song is related to Obsession, talking about their alter egos. The storyline or lore is kind of complicated to understand but very, very interesting. That´s why I love this group, because of their uniqueness. Chanyeol´s singing voice is so captivating. A "Red Force" que permeia todo o conceito do universo EXO e que TB instiga os personagens do EXO nesse universo. Pra mim Jekyll é incrível e inteligentíssima... Se vale de um clássico da literatura mundial - Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, o médico e o monstro - pra condensar esse conceito de Obsession. "Jekyll" perfectly matches "Obsession" in terms of concept. It's so edgy but sexy in the weirdest way. "Obsession" "Jekyll" "Groove" and "Trouble" are my favourites in that album (even among all EXO songs perhaps). The styling of this album is insane too. Team X-EXO (the evil side of themselves) is so convincing. And Kai digests the concepts perfectly every time: he's usually the one who has the craziest stylings Xiumin and D.O were in military in 2019

Kyungsoo (D.O) and Minseok (Xiumin) weren't in this song because they were serving their mandatory military enlistment during the making of this album! In South Korea every man needs to serve a certain time in the military before they turn 30. The youngest 2 members (Jongin/Kai and Sehun) are currently doing their enlistment. They are also the last 2 who still needed to do it.
