My mother got tickets from her boss to see Shirley Bassey. She was really excited about seeing this amazing singer. When she picked up the tickets it said Cilla Black!!! She was devastated. Anyway she went along and she absolutely loved it. A real performer, a true star she said. Bless them both xxx

For years now, I have always heard of Cilla Black, and i have to say, I really love her voice. Her covers of songs of Bacharach and David (Dionne's original recordings) were really great. In those days, a lot of artists were covering a lot of songs of other acts. that was not new. So I listened to I've been wrong before and It is you and fell in love with these songs at once. Beautiful melodies and great lyrics. Now my favs by her. Too bad the US never really got to see her talent. As for Ed Sullivan, what he did after she performed was really rude, but I think he was hurrying her along due to tight time constraints on the show. I don't ever recall him doing that to anyone ever, and i watched that show for years. Well Britain, you had talent, your Cilla was funny, quirky, a great voice, loads of talent, and fun. I wish today's young talent need to take a page from her about how to treat your fan base with respect. She was cool. RIP Cilla.

Thank you for posting this long interview with Cilla! I'm American and I learned about Cilla from the TV movie "Cilla", which was shown in 3 parts in the States last year (and again this year!). I loved it and that's why I'm here - to learn a bit more about the real Cilla (and her Bobby❤❤). I don't understand why she wasn't a huge hit in the States - she was fabulous and had a beautiful voice!
@josephinefothergill1913 жыл бұрын
I saw a documentary about this. I believe it was Burt Bacharach who took her to the States, but somehow she didn’t take to it and became homesick. I don’t think Bobby was with her and if I remember right (I’m quite old now was in my early twenties when the Beatles and Cilla were becoming famous) she phoned him and wanted to go home. Also at that time, the “British Invasion” hadn’t quite got going so maybe the timing wasn’t right.

Read this ........ On 1 August 2015, at the age of 72, Black died at her holiday home in the Spanish town of Estepona.A spokesperson for the High Court of Justice in Andalusia suggested that an accident may have been a contributing factor in Black's death Following the results of an autopsy, her sons confirmed that she had died from a stroke following a fall in her home.A pathologist's report confirmed that Black had suffered a subarachnoid haemorrhage after falling backwards and hitting her head, presumably on a terrace wall. It was believed she had not been found for at least four hours In 2014, she had stated that she wanted to die when she reached 75, as her mother, who suffered from progressive osteoporosis, had lived to 84 and her final years were difficult According to a friend, she had recently said that she was approaching death, complaining of failing eyesight and hearing as well as arthritis. Black had been suffering with rheumatoid arthritis for years and was in "considerable agony" towards the end of her life
