Abilities added a whole new layer of strategy in the match instead of running and just occasionally crouching, and also traps like Tombstone and Snowpiggy were so bad in the old system and Crawling trap would have been as terrible in the old trap system and without abilities countering a Crawling trap would have been impossible to do. Abilities are also a mid game/end game thing so a new player can't own them easily and there isn't a paywall to access them and overall they were a great feature that just requires a small bit of balancing as Black Hole and Inflatable traps are broken but other then that it was a 8/10 feature. And for the strategic part of them, all I'm gonna say is: energy counting and memorising. I won't go into much detail because the only way to appreciate the update is to understand how Impactful it was and discovering all the strategies which turn the simple Granny concept into a strategic experience. I feel like people underappreciate how great that update was. TL;DR Piggy always had traps it wasn't related to the abilities update which once again shows how much blinded you are or just pretending to be an OG

as a piggy og , I have a anecdote to tell , in 2022 , I remember finding a glitch that went viral in piggy community and everyone was copying it , it was when chapter 7 realesed , we were on the metro chapter with my cousins , he was the piggy and I tried to escape him by jumping on the train and it worked , so we could get on top of the train , and I remember it to become very viral but it got patched really fast sadly
