Back into top form Piggy. Love the reaching out to hawkers working hard in their stalls (Always the stars of the show). Also, love the cut-a-ways to the flag fluttering, the pot plants flourishing, and the alter offering/incense burning side issues. It is Singapore after all. But, and you know I'm a demanding task master, more soundtrack please. Oh, and as for Haigh Road HC. Nice vibe, but for me as a tourist, it is only a spot on the way to HJH Maimunah and the joys of Joo Chiat Road. Dr M

Yeah.. with HJH in the hood.. how to possibly stomach something else? 😅 That area warrants a couple of days stay. Dunman hawker. Old airport road. Joo chiat. Katong. Geylang. I try to capture what my eyes see.. but many times done in secret 😅🤫🤭.. just the everyday life of the people around you. That represents the essence and flavour of the community. You like the sound tracks huh? Maybe I should do an episode just on soundtracks 😄

I used to live on the 9th floor of Blk 3 Haig Road and I remember walking very often to this hawker to eat. Thanks for the great memories. I really love living in this area a lot.

Just want to compliment and show my appreciation to you and your videos. I no longer need to waste my time and money hunting for non credible stalls based on so called famous food blogs. Two thumbs up!!

Amazing, delicious traditional food in this hc. The best so far. Pls set up another stall at Margaret Dr hc. Most of e Chinese food stalls here can't make it. Lousy food n open as they like. They are not serious in doing biz.

Visited the place a couple of weeks back to eat Zhenguang wonton mee. Just alright for me. Didn't know they have pig skin option, my mum would have loved that. Another must visit is the putu piring at the other end. Mum's favorite. Other than that, really not familiar with the place. Thanks for vid, will check out the other stalls in future.

Yeah.. was alright. I ate putu piring too. Was tired and decided to leave Malay food to another episode. My mom said this putu piring has significantly nicer sugar filings. I thought maybe it’s fresher due to the volume of traffic there

@@Piggypuggy Ah okay. I wondered why I didn't see any Malay stalls as there are quite a number of them. One of them is really famous for their mee rebus, but unfortunately, mee rebus isn't something I really enjoy. I await your part 2.

Pity you left out the 3 best stalls in SG there. Satay. Wow. Unbelievable sauce to go with crispy sticks of beef or mutton. Corner Nasi stall with the best rending money can buy. Apom? Original stall. Btw Omar has the best tarek. Pulled just right. MUST try his teh tarek Alia. Mee rebus from mak chik!

The Lim Yu Mei kolo mee chili taste is very strong and spicy, have to be careful to ask them not to put too much, otherwise it over powers the dish. The other kolo mee I think open not long ago, less than a year? It's not bad too.

the seemingly chinese man who couldn’t speak chinese is so curious! wonder if he grew up in a different family and what 2nd language he learnt, if any. the prices at some of these stalls are so unbelievable like the 8 dollars fish set

The $2 economic rice.. so nice to see hawkers still offer real value on their menu together with other more expensive options. Especially in an area with so many old folk
@Piggypuggy
@Piggypuggy Жыл бұрын
That’s what amazed me.. many of the hawkers are 1-2 man show. They purchase quality products in bulk and only charge a wee bit more than their cost price. It’s even cheaper than if one were to purchase from the market and spend time cooking it themselves. We should have a national hawkers day to celebrate these heroes 🥰

Have you noticed how much older these hawker stall owners are. It would be sad if they can no longer work and there is no one to take over their business.

@@Piggypuggythank you for making these videos and sharing Singapore’s food heritage. It’s one of the many reasons I look forward to visiting this country. It does sadden me however to think that the lack of manpower and succession issues may mean traditional hawker foods will slowly die out as modern chefs bring in their vision of good food; a fusion of east and west. I hope the hawker scene doesn’t vanish and that the government and locals will help to keep this culture alive so we can all enjoy hawker food for many years to come.

Kolo mee is controversial, I can't taste the specialty of it, it is so similar to instant noodle. Sometimes I wonder replacing it with instant noodle will not affect its taste. May be it is just me. c",)
@Piggypuggy

Come to think of it.. It does look like instant noodles 😂.. except maybe thicker strands. Maybe folks love that QQ feeling of it
@simplyme3306

The noodles texture is totally different from instant noodles. Kolo mee is springy, instant noodles (like maggi mee) is more like mushy. Also it is true that it can be packed and kept in their springy texture unlike other noodles, they will turn soggy very fast. For kolo mee though I prefer the one at Bedok interchange coffeeshop.

To inject new blood into the Singapore hawker industry, why don’t NEA and other stakeholders e.g. Hawker centre landlords collaborate with popular retired old hawkers to create videos using a clean vanilla demo hawker stall on each specific step of their hawker operations (how to clean thoroughly) including advertising and marketing for each hawker cuisine to sell to new hawkers to reduce errors, maintain quality and reduce risks of food poisoning.
