Yes I have seen the old movie, and read the novel. I actually considered doing a similar movie once, or straight up adapting the book, but it was just a brief idea I had that never went into development. If it did adapt it, I'd try to stick as close to the novel as possible, although that won't be easy, so chances are things would probably get cut.
