I didn't bother to try looking up actual lore, but intuitively, this makes all the sense. Venom by itself is useless if your enemies are wearing armor with NBC shielding. Finally, a pro Zerg game where I don't yell "where is the anti-air?" the entire time.
@xIcarus2274 ай бұрын
Completely agreed. Zerg's anti-air units are too niche, so when they inevitably end up outside their niche scenarios they become almost worthless. Zerg's pathetic anti-air is such a bad game design decision, no other race has such an obvious weakness. This game is what a normal match should look like, drops should be punished when they're out of position just like in every other matchup. It's not normal for air units to freely roam around bases and armies the way they do.
@kalkovonschpritzendorf19144 ай бұрын
Hydras always shot spikes, but in SC1 they always spewed out quite a lot of acid when spitting them out. I believe there were some cinematics in the Terran campaign that have shown the spikes being shot out. Also the books about the XelNaga artifacts (that were written long before CS2) described them as shooting spikes.

Eh... that was always something a bit weird about SC1, but there has always been A LOT of art asset inconsistency in this game. I distinctly remember one cinematic where the Zerglings had Hydra heads; another where Overlords and Guardians appeared to be underwater... Basically, I'd hazard they just told their artists something like "Draw and animate a bunch of cool stuff, and we'll figure how to use it later." I always resent what they did to the Mutalisk. Mutalisks were clearly grotesque, winged moth larvae, with their butts above their heads kinda like a scorpion, but in SC 2 they decided to just give them super boring/sensible body plans. If you want to give a charitable explanation to the green fluid Hydras clearly shoot in SC1, you could view it as the byproducts of the chemical reaction involved in expelling the spines (much like how the anti-air Bugs in Starship Troopers shoot their plasma). Think of it as the discarded shell casings of artillery.

Hydras shot green acid in SC1 because it was originally going to be a Warhammer game with the Terran being the Space Marines, the Zerg being the Tyranids, and the protross being... probably the Eldar. The assets were repurposed when Games Workshop decided not to go through with making the game. In warhammer there is a unit called a ravener which is a snakelike variant of the warrior that is often shown to have an armor piercing ranged attack of acidic toxins. Hell, some variants can even shoot maggots which crawl into armor and THEN explode into acid. It's probably why it was so wet and goopy in the first.
@drewskiwest52848 ай бұрын
saw a couple comments, it seems like hydras need a venom debuff that can be upgraded at t3 and an upgrade at t2 that can jump cliffs like reapers do at t1 no upgrades. thats one way to make them slightly better... fungal + hydra venom = big combo. hydra+fungal+parasitic bomb = bigger anti air. but yeah.. we'll never see that. blizz can't balance hydras. they're either op or up. much like a couple protoss units and terran units. this is the problem with making a game with 2 expos. there's just too many units

Hydralisks have been a meme unit for so much of SC2... only Zerg "standard" ground unit that shoots up but awful against air armies, literally lost to landed Vikings back in WoL with their original godawful stats before they got buffed over and over up to just being kinda bad, tons of weird restrictions on their use throughout their development life like needing to stay on creep, and takes like three to four counter units to make an entire core of them utterly ineffective for a quarter of the cost. Hey @PiG I mean this in the most constructive way possible. In general, you are a great caster, no doubt, but here is some feedback that can result in some improvement. What I dislike here in this one, that for me, would make it better, is that you let me know what I'm gonna see, before I see it (almost). Pros: - You set a cool expectation early for me to continue wanting to see it with some level of excitement. Cons: - You remove the "WOW experience". When I haven't watched SC for some time, and I come to watch this one, I experience that I'm too prepared for what's gonna happen, rather than be surprised and WOW'ed. - Also, experiencing this, lowers the excitement that was there a bit for me. Possible solution: Build the excitement, with a bit more cryptic statements. For example, "This game is really cool, and very unlike Scarlett", or along those lines, rather than, "She will do this, and she is going to do that, before it has happened" Hope this is received well. Keep it up!

Quite honestly @PiG, all the whining about hydras is probably mostly strategic by her, i feel. Hydras are bad vs. marines + medivacs, but they're pretty solid vs. most other T units if T is not set up perfectly. Tanks are really not that good vs. hydras because they aren't armoured and thus get no extra damage and they don't clump as badly as marines, so the AoE is not quite as significant for them. I never understood the whining about hydras, because their DPS is silly high, to the point they almost can compete in base trades (certainly vs. protoss).

Mostly interesting, funny, insightful, as one would expect on this channel. But what if, hypothetically, there was also some arsehole spammer spraying ville hate-speech all over the comment section? Last I checked, the channel owner can remove individual comments, and also ban another account of commenting on their videos altogether by just banning them. (Or is it called blocking?) Is that still a thing? I know, I'm essentially saying, you're doing a kick-ass job, but could you do even *more* work? It's just … seeing too much mean-spirited trolling can be upsetting. And I don't have great confidence in KZbin moderation dealing with that, given that most of us viewers here don't pay anything for Premium. (Oh, and I just realised that you offer the option of becoming a member of your channel, and I'm not doing that either at the moment. Please forgive me, my current income is quite on the low end.) I dunno, maybe it would help to tell viewers to use the ‘Report’ feature when they see troll spam? Honestly got no idea whether that feature does anything or is just a placebo. Like I said, I don't have much faith in KZbin staff helping with that, but if I can, I'd like to do _something_ to make this place more civil and respectful.
