I used to do this all the time. If they go early hatch, you need to go early pool so you can drop a spine. They have to pull drones to attack the spine. You cancel and build an evo where the drones were to block a few of their patches. It gives great scouting and you sometimes get lucky enough to kill a drone with the broodlings from the killed evo.

This is a very casual commitment to evo trickery, whereas building an evo prison for enemy larva would have been more interesting to see at this level of play. Basically, if your enemy is zerg, and his hatchery is positioned in such a manner that the south side is open, you can take 3 drones and build 3 evos to build a prison around the larvae and thus block any units spawning from getting out until at least one of the evos is destroyed, which can take a long time at that point in the game, especially if they don't have a spawning pool coming up. It's costly but seems to end up about even with the enemy as their drones will be stuck in the prison for a good while, but of course, the real damage dealt to the opponent is the mental damage. There is also some potential to attack with broodlings but in my experience you usually get only like one zergling or damage a queen for a bit.

"cutting the mustard" is in reference to the flavor of mustard being potent and how much other ingredients are needed to "cut" through the flavor palette. Either that or because mustard plants are tough to cut. Either way, the phrase implies not enough effort was done to accomplish whatever task.

Question and comment: Why not Evo into his mineral lines? 3 hatch before pool is how Life won a lot of his money. It's not horribly dumb if it won a ton of cash. Bonus: love your trolling content.

As someone who has tried repeatedly (mostly unsuccessfully) to pylon block the main mineral patch, I can tell you that it would be nearly impossible to evo-block the main mineral patch because the drones’ mining paths constantly block your buildings.

If I get australia server and bait the drones out of position by building a spine or something I can SOMETIMES land the evo block, otherwise it's super hard to get it down in the minerals. Used to be easier in the 6 worker start days

Um actually, the phrase is “doesn’t cut muster” and it refers to when soldiers line up for inspection. Cutting muster means the soldiers pass inspection

nah, pass muster is a different phrase to cut the mustard, only overlapping in deliberate wordplay or occasional accident. Origins of cut the mustard are mixed but there doesn't seem to be much evidence it's a mutation of passing muster but rather a separate creation of similar meaning and sound

I think Florencio figured that if you spawn them in oposite direktion on the map the screech will not give away the direktion. (Normaly you can hear from where one screech is comming)

I'm curious, in the first game is there a reason you didn't go for muta/corrupter yourself? I'd think that on a better economy challenging him for air control would be a great way of dealing with the nyduses and slower swarm hosts. (I don't actually play the game, so legitimate question)

Well if you can counter with economy, you can make lots of less effective units faster than making higher tier units and he already had a plan to go ultras to break the front + all the spines. Not that he couldn’t have also gone muta/corruptor but he was already ’behind’ and would have to catchup the mass amounts of mutas he’s would to overwhelm. All that to say, if you have a strong eco it doesn’t really matter as long as you can deal with the nydus popups

100% it would have been an easy win condition, I just felt like I was already pretty committed to ground by the time I realised he was going nydus SH. Before that point I assumed he'd commit pretty heavily into mass muta and figured going ground was the easier way to counter it
