PIKE FISHING|popping up deadbaits for BIG gravel pit PIKE!

In this video I thought I'd try something different to what I normally do at this venue as a bit of an experiment to see if popping up dead baits is more effective then my usual technique. It's a method that requires a lot more explaining so sorry if this video has more chat in it then fishing but there was a lot to say! haha

nice video dan did a season on pop ups...deffo had more takes ..early season..ie oct nov...when they are still actively hunting..it slowed for me around jan and feb..when deads on the bottom worked a treat...just a few facts that get pikers thinking...looking forward to ya next sesh....

Yeah thats interesting. Guess its similar to carp fishing, bright singles in the spring then food baits later in the season. Gets you thinking

Out of interest what fishing clothing do you wear, I'm starting to feel the cold now as I'm getting older & want to invest in some clothing, esp boots as I suffer from cold feet. Tight lines 🎣

I work for an outdoor clothing company so this something I can talk about with confidence! Merino wool baselayers make a massive difference, layering up with lightweight fleeces/hoodies, fleece lined trousers are great and then seel yourself in with a bib and brace and a padded waterproof jacket. As for boots fleece lined wellies are my go to for years with merino wool socks (or 2). Doesn't have to be pricey stuff theres loads of affordable retailers out there

Nice fish. I've always found bites to be a bit iffy on pop ups as well, although I've never deep hooked a fish with them. I don't know why you, and pike anglers in general, worry about throwing a bait in to weeds. The pike will find the bait, I've had loads from the middle of weed beds.

use a long weak ling to your lead longer than the trace you will not drag the bait into the week o need to free line in my opinion

In your opinion indeed. Therefor the initial direction about long weak link wasn't necessary. In My opinion. Great pike as always.
