Even when you catch nothing, your honesty about the struggles and showing your perseverance is inspirational and motivational. Fishing is also about enjoying nature and emptying your head and this is something you cannot "blank" in if you know what I mean. Also love the catch with the snake lure, brilliant!

Loving the video. Wonder if thinner gauge hooks would help with the hook up ratio or an extra split ring/clip to have the hook slightly further away from the bait. I'm going to give topwater a go this year and see if I can get anything.

Cool vid mate, we don't always have an easy days fishing. I think it's the tough days that make us appreciate the lucky ones, main thing is your enjoying it regardless. I spotted a monster pike on the canal near me, Leeds/Liverpool, id say 25-30lbs, i would'nt fish for that if you paid me 😂

I agree with Mariusz matey, i live in Morecambe and have just taken up fishing to have a hobby and some time for myself. I tried the Canal but i dont know where is best to go and also i cant get my head round the jargon and kit and equipment. I wanted to just fish off the float for pleasure although a mate of mine fishes for pike and loves it so i will be giving that a go but dont want to spend a fortune on stuff i dont need.

If you go to the other side and fish between the island and where the wall meets the water in South basin. It's over a massive weed bed where the pike lay. Go in the evening.

I know this comment is a little late but it's in regards to using that lure. A popper is designed to cause a big disturbance in the water. When reeling in the popper it's best to use quick movements of the rod to twitch it in and cause it to make a splash on the surface. Rich

Thanks Rich, I tried to vary my retrieve quite a bit when I was there but I'll work on that more next time!

Just echoing what other guys saying about the popper. I've worked these all day from a kayak in Panama and I can tell you it hurts by the end of it. Not sure swapping out the trebles will do anything for the lure action as these look like BIG owner ST66 hooks made to measure and ultra sharp. Must have been demanding working a popper this big with a light rod too. My guide instructed to make fast sweeps with the rod, reel in the slack line and repeat, causing a continuous wake of bubbles. Could always try a smaller popper like the Savage Gear Panick Popper, I've caught Tuna on these but odly, never a pike?! Tight lines and good to see videos showing frustrating sessions.
@adventurefishinguk2 жыл бұрын
Hard work isn't it! That sounds like you were on a great trip. I'd definitely have had more luck using a smaller lure, in hindsight i probably should have. It's hard for me to get an idea out of my head though when i've had one 😂

I don't want to be a big headed, but you could catch much more, giving this lure a proper action, instead of retrieving it like a crankbait. You need to use your rod next time. Great video anyway, and lovely scenery.
@adventurefishinguk2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice mate! Most of the time when I’m talking to camera I’m focusing on that rather than properly fishing for that 30 seconds of time. I tried all sorts with the action and found no way of retrieving to really be much better. Thanks for watching and I’m glad you liked the video!
