I was quite upset by Jeremy Bretts early death the only other actor to come close, in my opinion was Peter Cushing . Anyway highly enjoyable tale, exceptional story telling though I was confused as to the where Cylon was to start then figured it was Ceylon. I had a look at the game with your amusing narrative I can never get the hang of them. The chap on the writing table was General Gordon of Khartom whose head was chopped off and stuck on a spear which we British seem very proud of. Carry on the jolly good work.

I am in Germany too. John Atkinson Grimshaw is known for his paintings of urban scenes at night and lots of them seen to be misty and wet but very realistic.

@@stewartlancaster6155 I mean that Eric Brown, or children, have not learned of this story. As a writer, not nearly clever enough to think up a Sherlock Holmes story, and knowing other writers, some professionals, I understand about protecting copy rights. However, pikewerfer does send the reader to the writer's website, I have to believe they know about it.

What are your thoughts on the Sherlock Holmes movies with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, as well as the tv series with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.
@pikewerfer9 жыл бұрын
Concerning those movies..... I guess the best way to describe it is: this is not my Sherlock Holmes. I daresay Jeremy Brett and the wonderful TV series from Granada Television were a lot closer to what I envision our favorite sleuth would act and behave like (I also liked the BBC audio play very much, by the way). Turning him into an action hero was.... understandable from a monetary point of view, but I daresay Doyle was rotating in his grave. I watched them, and had no choice but to rename the characters in my mind in order to sit through it. The Sherlock-Series I like a lot better, because it is clearly obvious that this is a restart in an alternate modern reality. It therefore does not touch/maltreat or "threat" my emotional attachment to the rational, bohemian Victorian gentleman I treasure in my imagination. This Sherlock, though very similar to him in many ways, is clearly a different person. I therefore was able to sit back, relax and smile at the similarities of characters and cases. Have I answered your question?

yes. yes have. and one of the few to be clear with your answer. thank you.

An interesting story but it isn’t actually one written by Arthur Conan Doyle. I have looked carefully for it and it does not appear in any of the collections of Sherlock Holmes stories.
@pikewerfer3 жыл бұрын
No, it isn't. As is stated clearly in the description beneath the video. The one saying: "This is NOT an original SH story by Sir A.C. Doyle, but one written by the excellent Mr. Eric Brown. You can find his website here: ericbrown.co.uk/ I tried to contact the publishers of the book in which this remarkable story is to be found - "The Mammoth Book of New Sherlock Holmes Adventures" by Carroll&Graf Publishers, Inc. 1997 - but they are no longer in existence. However, I was able to get permission from the successor - The Perseus Books Group. Thank you very much indeed!! You can find them here: www.perseusbooksgroup.com/ And you can still find the book on Amazon (I just checked - it was edited by Mike Ashley)."

@pikewerfer5 жыл бұрын
@@da1681 Why do you think that? I am genuinely interested.
@da16815 жыл бұрын
@@pikewerfer oh where do I begin? Holmes discussing climatology, meteorology? The man who says that he doesn't care for the Copernican theory. 'If the Earth went around the Sun, it wouldn't make a pennyworth of difference to me and my work' Holmes describing tropical scenery, sunset??? Holmes talking about dinner? Holmes attending social dinners with an unsolved case in hand? It's a minor point but no examination of the scene of crime with his famous magnifying glass? Holmes describing the behavior of that ungracious lady? Holmes can get any information he wants from anyone. No one can ignore his masterful personality. Oh I could go on. It is not Holmes in any way you look at it. Doesn't have the feel if nothing else. Sorry but I read and listen to Holmes stories a zillion times from any good source that I get. Overly affected reading with implausible accents. Insufficient preparation as far too many mispronunciations of names and other words which have been read out as they would by a child and not as spoken. The story, though entertaining was not up to the standard of Conan Doyle.
