Pikmin 4 Demo - 100% Speedrun -

Pikmin 4 demo is finally out there! This is my attempt at collecting everything in the demo, which means clearing the first area of the game by collecting every treasure, castaway and onion. Once you reach 1500 sparklium the demo doesn't end immediately, the game lets you play until sundown. There is actually enough time to collect everything by day 3. The route I used is very preliminary, but I feel like this game will have some interesting routing potential, so I'm excited to see how it turns out with the full game. I'm sure tons of improvements can be found to reduce this time, but I'm fine with this as a start. Stay tuned for more

I’m surprised that beating the demo version of Pikmin 4 with all treasures, onions, and castaways retrieved in record time is nearly at the same length as an all ship parts speedrun of Pikmin 1! At this rate, I can already tell that Pikmin 4’s going to be HUGE! Possibly a lot bigger than the first three Pikmin games combined!

If you're going for minimum days you can lighten the load by continuing to explore on day 2, you can do a lot without big oatchi or being able to build bridges. Then on day 3 you don't have to do as much as in this video lol

Amazing job! I recently 100%’d my own demo save file, sadly I took 2 days longer to try and unlock Oatchi’s swim (which I did 👍). But still I’m glad I got a good head start for when the full game comes out. My personal challenge for this game is to beat it 100% within the original game’s 30 day limit. Though part of me hopes this game is much larger than 30 days 🤞

@@NrettG to be 100% honest I’m not entirely sure. I heard it varies or is sort of RNG. But to trigger it you have to drown Oatchi as soon as possible. Like once or twice as soon as you can get him to water. Then anywhere from 1-3 days later when you land for your next expidition the Captain will tell you how she was training Oatchi how to swim and now he got over his inability to swim. I didn’t get mine unlocked until day 4 but that’s because I didn’t drown him on purpose at first.

And yeah it is interesting how he didn’t have the ability to swim off the bat and had to be in a bad situation in order to learn it over time. I hope they continue that trend in the full game. SPOILER A full speedrun of Pikmin 4 will be absolutely insane because you have to get EVERY treasure, onion, castaway, and leafling. Then you have to cure the leaflings with the night expeditions then theres the insase times with dandori challenges and the difficulties with dandori battles. Then Pikmin 4 potentially having 7 areas along with Olimar side story. This game is massive and a full speedrun will probably be longer then Pikmin 1, 2, 3 and hey pikmins speedruns all combined

I enjoy it. I haven't abused it as much but at the end of the day I was about to end the demo and was very close to getting the blue onion. Had to do that about 5 times just to get everything perfect. Adds in more elements are lets you try new techniques to see if they will work or not in further playthroughs.

I don't know if it fits into the route at all but you can make the jump to the dragon fruit by the paper bag at the top, you have to dismount to squeeze between the planter and the wheel but you'll fit and you can start carrying it early

There's some really neat things you can do with 2P mode as well. Like in that tutorial level when you're waiting on Oatchi to dig up the fork thing, you can use P2 to dig it up. I had no clue you could get the blue onion in the tutorial, I thought I was gated by needing 50 pikmin in the field. This is so sick. The potential for this game as a speedrun has me even more excited for its release. Can't wait to see what the community is able to do.

Nah it's not the BLUE ONION. We can see that on the map or with DRONE. The tricky final 1% most have issue with is the hidden potato. That Oatchi will find for u with sniffing. In all worlds moving forward, I would do a final "sniff" test if you look at map and think u cleared everything.

When you travel into caves, time does not stand still. It still passes. Just much slower. He's optimizing caves as well, because the time you are down there still matters. So you're either not doing all too much on the surface, or taking your time through caves, which will stack up.

The only problem I have with Pikmin 4 atm is the confusing timeline. I'm pretty sure Olimar talks about his Pikmin 1 adventure in the beginning, but the area you're in (and the dog) just don't fit with the timeline. If you then go "oh he just went back to PNF-404 _again_ for some reason", he talks like he just met the Pikmin for the first time in that 2d animation. Is Nintendo trying to retcon Pikmin 1 to a certain extent or am I missing something?

You're really confusing in what you're asking for, sorry. The control settings just make it more comfortable for different people to play. Inverted joysticks, different sensitivity with the camera and motion, etc. I don't know why you think that relates to the video. It doesn't change the actual gameplay....

Being allowed only three Pikmin types on the field at a time is not an improvement but shows that they have reached an impasse with the series’ own internal mechanic. Add to this a nonsensical story plot, objectives that are more confusing than intuitive, the inclusion of a dog who also substitutes for a captain, and overall the game just looks terrible. No one who has played it has called it good, the word they have used is interesting, which is just a euphemism for bad.

Harp on any little negative thing, without understanding the big picture of the gameplay, and deny all the objective improvements of the game. The menus are so dull and generic. The original Pikmin font is gone, replaced with a boring sans serif. Ground textures are flat and blurry, controls are constantly on screen taking up space, character referred to as "they". Hard pass.
