When he is in battle, he is on ratatosk mode. This is why he sound different in battle. If you don't know what is ratatosk mode, it is when Emil has red eyes "out of battle". Emil has two different personality.

at the end really for all i got in ToS1 raine's cooking skills could pretty well kill you so marta and emil are smart enough not to try it :P
