After having bought the LP of the same name back when it was new, I found it to be about as challenging to listen to as anything I'd encountered to that point. Minimalist, caterwauling, atonal, vaguely Middle Eastern, it was quite a stew, even after having heard earlier PiL. After a few listens, however, the LP grew on me, and now finding this is like stumbling across an old greatest hit. Good post.

When I first heard a PiL song, I say to me "what?? I have heard this song before! But I have never even knew this band before!" I have always the same reaction to others PiL songs, specially when I heard "Death Disco" and "Rise" xD

Live in Tokyo was definitely not a highpoint in PiL's career. Having not listened to it in about 20 years, I will admit it sounds better than I recalled but that might have something to do with just how appalling music has become since then. Makes me feel kind of sad knowing that as bad a place as Tokyo was even when this was recorded, it's immeasurably worse now. Death is preferable to living in Tokyo! Also those same Japanese kids growing up now would be listening mainly to J Pop not PiL.
