I think there's some notion of trying to reconcile with some monsters that come up when you're really looking back at where you were vs a role you tak on later, if it's writing or art, like there can be a very sadistic, masochist sort of relationship between what you do versus what you regret you didn't do. I think Rick is sort of settling the differences in this and other songs. The visual stuff really reinforces that

What a visually rich video! Now that I've had the chance to watch it a couple of times, I'm wondering if the connections to Pile's album iconography are intentional or just a happy coincidence. The green leaves around a grey surface, the figure in a bathtub, the prominent use of collage... either way, it's a stunning watch with a glorious surreal-horror atmosphere. Big ups to the director + crew, esp. the lighting director and colorist. Also really appreciative of the intensity and physicality of Rick's performance here. The contrast of staid, almost bored, aloofness in the one persona and the kinda twisted kinetic frenzy of the other is really compelling. Best band continues to be best in exciting new ways, haha.
