Thanks for the video. It is not very common to hear from the pillion views especially in the context of touring. My wife and I tour on our Multistrada 1200 and come across the similar processes of going through the riding gears, seat, luggage etc. Very useful and practical comments.

Nice relaxed style Mate. I used to take my wife on the back, but not so much these days. I have a GSX S 1000 not really suitable for a pillion. Great channel, greetings from South Australia. Great info. Spectacular scenery, love the drone footage. Take care and stay safe.

Great video. What would be helpful is to hear about wind management for the pillion. My wife and I bought a 1250 GSA and my wife complained that her back was uncomfortable (we had a top box with pad and her with back pad jacket) and she was getting too much wind turbulence (I had aftermarket larger wind shield)… we were playing with ideas on how to get her more comfortable on the back seat (she is used to cruiser touring trunks) but alas, had to sell. Wondering if I was riding too fast? Highways in Texas go really fast… so any issues with back or wind turbulence at high speeds? Thanks!

Hi Wayne..Good timing with this video for me. I really would like a GS (currently own a Crosstourer) one of the stumbling blocks is my wife finds that the vario panniers restrict her foot movement on the pegs meaning the peg is almost under her heal more than instep. Could you ask your good lady if she finds this please. The other option is a tiger 1200 which she finds better. Thanks in advance.
@SmileyoureonTV4 жыл бұрын
So I just asked the question and she said it sits in the middle of her foot, doest have an issue, we've had a few TIGERS IN OUR LIFE AND THEY ARE COMFORTABLE FOR A PILLON but as the rider I really do like the 1250 boxer oh by the way she's a size 6

Is it difficult to manoeuvre in slow speed like starting / stopping / at the lights? That’s what I’d be afraid of. New to riding.

Hi, I’ve been riding since 1986. With pillion off and on since 1996. In my opinion it’s considerably more difficult during slow speed maneuvering. Very slightly so at speed. I’d make sure you are a great rider without a passenger before you add the extra weight and potential movement. It’s also critical that you and your pillion understand that she/he is not passive and just along for the ride like in a car. They contribute to handling the bike much more than you might think. A relaxed and engaged pillion makes riding two up a pleasure. A nervous fidgety passenger is not safe. Not that they need to be stiff and perfectly still, they just need to know when and how to move.

Also. It’s important that you are ready for him/her to climb aboard. Make sure you are off the side stand and ready for the bike to pull towards them (keep the stand out and have them climb aboard on that side just in case). Make sure he/she knows not to climb on until you say you are ready. I prefer that they step onto the passenger peg instead of trying to mount like she does in the video. Try both ways. This is probably the most likely time to drop the bike so be prepared. Once you’ve done it a few times you’ll have a routine and it’s no big deal.

And finally (I promise). She needs to lean with you. At slow speed when you are balancing (leaning away from the turn) and at speed (leaning in). Her shoulders should match yours.

Everyone has different ways ! I put my leg over the seat, get half way on and then use the peg to push the rest of my bum over. Some people stand on the peg and then bend their knee through the gap - I can’t do that legs don’t fit !! I am 5.5 as well. Adele
