I think this is the BEST vanishing point review I've ever seen. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!

If there was a fire and I could only save one pen it would be my Decimo. I have 95 pens. My second one would be my Jinhao X450 with its 1.5 Bock nib.

I’ve been getting into fountain pens as a lifelong stationery lover (& Japanese in particular) so I’ve seen myself getting a Vanishing Point as an inevitability but this is what pushed me over the edge to get one

I have the pearl white Decimo with a 14k solid gold nib with Rodium plating which makes it look silver to match the Rodium plating which is also on the Click button. I have the medium nib and it writes smoothly both upside down (extra fine), and normally a very wet Medium. The nib units are available separately and come supplied with a converter. I am getting a 1mm stub unit for Christmas to try. My friend is a lefty and loves using my Decima. He is on the way to buy one for himself.

Oh my God you have no idea how helpful this is....? Honestly, thank you. Thank you so much. The fountain pen community puts out decent amount of content in the form of videos, reviews, and photos, but most of it is just purposed with putting out things that *looks pretty*. A lot of times it's really, really hard for a prospective buyer to get a perspective of what to actually expect from a pen of a certain size nib because most of the content out there is unhelpful in this regard. Writing samples that don't even specify the nib size, are filmed/captured at odd angles to show off the ink more than anything else, and fancy lettering that give a completely misleading picture of the true nature of the nib is really common. As someone looking for a grail pen for everyday/extended writing, it drives me crazy. It is surprisingly hard to find a sensible comparison, complete with reasonable mm size estimates, in this community. Thank you so much.

i just ordered a decimo in gray. i have a couple of vp, love them. now im looking at adding a fermo and vp LS to family, but $ :) wish LS had a few more color options. I have a VP in carbon fiber, which is my favorite so far. as far as writing, they all are the same, as its same guts

I never thought about a thicker pen being easier to write with. I kinda feel like the extra 10g is going to offset that though. What matters is how hard you have to grip the pen to keep it from slipping. The VP has a couple of design concerns in that regard: textureless metal, no flare out at the section, on the heavy side. Still I want to try it, because that one handed operation is valuable. But I've had trouble with the e95s for example, which also has no clear section. Backweighted pens like the 823 also give me grief. 912 and 743 seem to work well for me.

I recently bought the yellow vanishing point with the Fine 18K nib. I wish I had purchased the less expensive "capless" model from Japan with the steel alloy nib as I find the 18k gold nib to be a bit too "springy" for my liking. Has anyone else felt the gold nib flexes too much?

I'm so glad I came across your video for these pens, as I am definitely interested in both of them. I'm hoping maybe Santa will bring 1 in a couple of months. Thank you!

My only VP is the aerometric filling 1988 Namiki "Stealth" gifted by a friend. I would like to try a modern Pilot version and reduce wear on the classic and much loved 1988. I expect I need to compare at a pen shop to be sure which suits me best. Thank you for your excellent comparison.

Superb review indeed. I’m just a little confused about one thing, though. Is tthe Capless/Vanishing Point offered with a steel nib? Or is it the Decimo? I always thought this pen comes with only either a 14k or 18k rhodium plated gold nib.
@jennstns93 жыл бұрын
They have gold nib. They’re not offered in steel.
@philippegosselin77562 жыл бұрын
@@jennstns9 It's possible to get a steel nib but it's not available at stores outside of japan. You have to import directly from Japan to get it
@jennstns92 жыл бұрын
@@philippegosselin7756 yeah that’s what I meant. I’m in the US so it’s not widely available here. But why anyone would want a steel nib over a gold is beyond me 😅

Amen! The Decimo is my all-time favourite too (though I'm totally in love with my Kaweco Student Demonstrator as well!). Thanks for the fun and informative comparison! I haven't had any problems with the clip either, except once at a conference when I was taking notes all day long - by the second day the clip started to hurt my fingers. But I think that's probably because I gave a funny left-handed grip. 😆

Hello, thanks for the video. I was looking for a side by side comparison just like this. By the way, you mentioned that your Decimo has a steel nib. Are you sure? It's my understanding that only the standard VP is available with the steel alloy nib. I've been looking for a Decimo with the steel nib, and I can't find it anywhere.

Oh yes, I saw different kinds size of gold nib on a pen store.

You've got that wrong, I believe. The Decimo is a 18k gold nib, and the Mustard Capless (which you have probably purchased from Japan) is the stainless (gold plated), that's why it's "70 dollars".
@artist-reader6 жыл бұрын
Nope. You're wrong, she's right. :) The Mustard is also 18k.

I thought capless and vanishing point were 2 different pens?
@estelle57984 жыл бұрын
Two different names for the same pen depending on the region! It's "Capless" In Europe and Asia mainly and Vanishing Point in America.
