Pilot tubes are first installed with a high degree of accuracy while integrating features of other trenchless technologies like microtunneling, auger boring, pipe ramming, and horizontal directional drilling to install a variety of product pipe.
The first step of the PTM method requires the accurate installation of pilot tubes. In most cases, the dual‐walled pilot tube displaces the ground while the operator makes any steering corrections through real‐time feedback of the theodolite guidance system.
