I started buying parts for my new PC build about a week ago. Can't wait for the 24th of October, going to pick up the Ultra Core 9 285k with a Gigabyte Z890 Xtreme AI Top. I need to reuse my 4090, 2X 4TB Samsung 990 Pro, and 96GB DDR5 for now. Next upgrade part will be the 5090 for sure when it launches, I'll get one on day one just like my 4090.

Hey enjoy it! I'm happy for you! I am on the fence with upgraded as this was the processor I was going for. It is a huge jump from my Core i7 4790k but the thing is....... I was hoping for more performance........ I'm going to wait it out to see what AMD's Ryzen 9800X3D can do. Which ever is the performance king on the CPU, I will take.

In korea, people are going with 8000 ddr5 and 10,000 ddr 5, to pair up with Intel ultra. They said it can be supported. And getting extra 10% gains on games

Yep. They said in lots of benchmarks they used DDR5 6400 so we might actually see better performance with 8000 than Intel mentioned in their announcements.

I'm curious how this will affect running local LLm's . Maybe it will let us run those large LLm's inside RAM insted VRAM with similar performance? 10 000 ddr5 ram I guess will do the job?

@@ThePawel36 gskill just came out for Intel 8000mhz. Trident ck, royal is 8000mhz. And there will be up to 10,000 mhz for Intel.

Amazing with all this complete utter nonsense. Seeing people spamming Arrowlake can do 9.6 ghz and they think they can do that themselves wirh aircooler or watercolor, while being completely ignorant that 9.6 ghz was done with liquid nitrogen for 40 seconds

I can upgrade right now.......but looking at the fact that the Intel Core Ultra 9 285k is just as powerful as the Core i9 14900k disappoints me. I'm going to wait it out on AMD's 9800X3D, if it outperforms every CPU out now in gaming, I'm getting it.

Lowering it vertically is nothing wrong. You literally did that yourself, just from lower height. Be careful and you won't have any issues. Also you did something that's a bad idea - you touched the underside of the CPU. If it had pins, that would be GG. But even for pinless CPU you just put your greast all over the contact points of a CPU...

I built a new system about 18 months ago, and I'm going to sit this new generation out...at least that's my thinking right now. But I have been wondering for a while if we are about at the end of CPU performance development. Do we _really_ need faster, more complex CPUs? [I'm talking for average PC users/gamers...not highly specialized users.] Might it not make sense for users to look for more efficient CPUs, in terms of power consumption and efficiency, and better optimized software to run on them? Just like GPUs, we can hardly get _more_ visual fidelity and realism with the current hardware...maybe we should be advancing on other methods to get what we want out of our hardware. Or will we just demand more, more MORE POWER and ignore other areas to increase/improve performance?

285K extreme Wattage I saw at 295W. Also the 250W is questionable as the 285K and 265K have different clock speeds. For me this is something for new builds. I'm looking at APO and Battlemage. The new Z890 has direct 5.0 PCI lane to CPU as does X870. This is REBAR on steroids. So simply put 285K and Battlemage dual GPU performance with no restrictions link to CPU. To me Wattage is performance. In Wattage it will look 250-295W (285K) + 250-275W (Battlemage) = 500-570W of combined performance. All this on paper to my view lifts the ARC from Alchemist to Battlemage more than double. We have Xe vs Xe2 that already is 50% gain. Predicted clock speed is 3000mhz if not more from 2400mhz (boost) to give a good lift also. APO another 10-50% predicted on supported games. XeSS XMX on bar with DLSS. This is what I'm waiting to see what will this pairing do? Would I dare to say beating 5080?

@@NJ-wb1cz Before 24th we can't really say anything till it is tested in base configuration and overclocked. Personally I think INTEL under powered the specs top avoid China breaking this CPU like they did 13th and 14th gen trying to bring the internet down. They almost succeeded as on the W680 Asus server boards it was 100% failure. So do not get a Chinese board. Problem is almost all are Chinese. MSI also is made in China but also in Taiwan. Avoid Asus and Asrock.

But we most likely won't know before 24th for sure when we start to get reviews and tests. That said there is lot of good about this all and PCI 5.0 will be a huge selling point. AMD boards had to release their X870 even without 9800X3D/9950X3D that are maybe coming next year. Point is that I see anticipation of Battlemage. If AMD doesn't have a board and Battlemage comes and beats 5080 they are dead on water.

Intel: we will give you some efficiency cores that will help you running light workload and background tasks. Also Intel: here 16 of them while u still on the same 8 P core we had since 9th Gen :)
