At 16:20 the refresh rate of the onboard display is low. This is due to a new setting in MSFS2020 that came with last patch. If you want it to refresh more frequently sop it is smoother go to General Options, Visual, Glass cockpit refresh rate. Change from Medium to High. It has a small FPS penalty, but it inproves your control substantially.

Caravan's run the risk of being over taken by pretty much anything with wings, including aging seagulls. As a result, time compression for aircraft with that sort of performance might be permitted, but a busy controller will be slightly less enthusiastic about a 400kt+ airplane doing it.

You really showed what a difference it makes to have them in your sim for people that want to expedite and simplify (and save money) the learning of flying in real life. I don't care how good you are with your aviation, navigation and setting up your instruments, if you don't practice with a real ATC feel, when you go out there you will panic, which will affect everything else. If you don't believe me, try PilotEdge for free and let us know how that turned out. Also, I think you should do the CAT ratings to help people navigate through them

Great Vid!!! I very much agree with your statements about Simulators and Flight Training. I fell in love with Aviation at a very young age as I flew on Airliners on average 10-20 times per year starting at age 8. I was in love with the feeling of being pushed back in your seat by the Jet Engines during Takeoff and when everyone else on board was freaking out in heavy Turbulence I was looking out the window in excitement watching the wing-flex as we bounced all over the place. I started using flight Simulators when Microsoft Flight Sim 1996 came out, I was 10 years old at the time. On my 18th Birthday my family all pitched in and got me 10 Flight Lessons at a Flight School near where I live in Montana. My Instructor said I was a natural, on my third lesson, I went from Cold & Dark to Takeoff, flying a pattern and landing without my Instructor having to touch the yoke or rudder pedals at all, he did help with the throttle once during my landing approach but that was it. I do credit all the time spent with Simulators with a good bit of how well I performed so early on. Nothing can replicate the exact resistance you get from the yoke under different conditions in real life flight or being able to trim by feeling, but what I knew about Aerodynamics and what an Aircraft will (Generally) do given your inputs to the yoke, peddles and throttle going into my first lesson helped for sure! But you will never know how your instincts play a role in flight, nor will you get to experience the feeling of a Power-Off Stall and much much more in a Simulator. That said, I would likely not hold my PPL with multiple endorsements nor be able to wake up any morning (if I'm not working) and take out my own Cessna-182 TRG!, were it not for Flight Simulators solidifying my love of Aviation!!! Again, thank you so much for making the videos you do!! I think it is so important to get people, especially younger generations interested in aviation!

I'm a private pilot who was not exercised the privilege in over 20 years (kids, marriage, career...life happens). I'm not sure if I'll ever get back into flying, but I'm getting ready to pick up flight sim as a hobby again. Modern sims like FS 2020 and X Plane are such an improvement over what was available in the early 90's when I learned to fly! You don't get the seat-of-the-pants feedback, but for practicing procedures, navigation, flight planning it really is an invaluable tool, especially given how expensive flight training is today. Richard Bach had it right. Flying is this beautiful marriage of science and art that is life-changing! For those who came here for the flight sim stuff who have never thought about actually flight training, DO IT! I know it's expensive, but if it's important enough you find a way. When I was 21 I sold my car and rode my bike to the airport so I could pay for my training! Give yourself the gift of flight. No one can ever take it away from you.

Emilie... a couple more comments if I may: #1) You are a breath of wonderfully fresh air! The fact that you are an experienced real life pilot with great knowledge to share with the flight simulation community is much more important than your fumbling around with the idiosyncrasies of flight simulator. I am both a real life pilot of more than 50 years and a flight sim pilot of over 35 years and my 11 year old grandson can fly the my sims better than I can sometimes. #2) because you have such a following and as evidenced by some of the comments, there are a large number of 'new' pilots, interject some basic flight knowledge and language into the presentations. As an example, demonstrate the takeoff briefing, which should be completed before every flight in every type of aircraft... on the roll, before Vr... after no more usable runway... climb out, altitude/distance for the specific aircraft for a successful return to the airport... and then the Landing Briefing. #3) So, I have over 3000 hours of real life flying in over 54 different aircraft and over 20000 hours of simulator flying and never in either world have I ever heard about turning on the taxi light when cleared to land... I love it! Now to be fair, I am self taught (soloed an Aeronca 7AC ‘Champ’ in 1970 with 5 ½ hours in my logbook - and by the way, my instructor was a wonderful woman/pilot) and never experienced real life flight training or ground schools except for the accelerated IFR course before I sat for my FAA IFR written test. Actually, since Covid, I enrolled in an online helicopter ground school for private and commercial... but I digress. #4) You along with some other notable KZbin real life pilots are sharing and promoting the benefits of flight simulation for real world pilots. I have been banging this drum for over 20 years. I have 2 flight simulators and as I write this I am having a new super computer built for MS2020. I have 8 different Pilot-in-command setups so that I can accurately represent the flight controls of the specific aircraft / helicopter being flown from either the right seat or left seat or front seat real seat. I will never get rid of my two present sims as I have tens of thousands of hours into them and many of the aircraft only exist in FS9 and FSX, Sure, the scenery is poor, but they are great for low IMC work, so if the visibility is set to 1/2 mile scenery is not important. I have had 4 airline captains and two US Air Force Colonels (one of the colonels was the head instructor for the entire C-5 Galaxy and the other still holds the 'climb to altitude' record in a B1B bomber out of Edwards Air Force base) my sims over the years and they loved the experiences and challenges. I made business cards to promote flight simulation and on the back of the card this is written: "The use of flight simulation for proficiency far outweighs the non use because it doesn't count toward currency or logged hours." As another example of the benefits of flight simulation - the fellow I was working with (before covid) is a 68 year old retired airline captain. He has over 25,000 hours of flight time. He was a A7 carrier pilot in the navy, an FBI agent/pilot and then a full career flying for the airlines with his last gig flying 777s over the pond. Why did he contact me? He had bought a Cessna 182 Skylane RG with a Garmin GNS530/GNS430 WAAS and didn’t know the 1st thing about them. He sent me a picture of his Cessna panel and I created an (almost) exact replica of it in my sim and he came for 4 visits and I helped him learn the units. It’s been a blast… and I ALWAYS learn something new when I fly (for real or simulated) with new people such as yourself! #5) Keep up the great work… oh and by the way, if this flight had been a check ride, I would have failed you for no altitude call outs!! … only kidding, :-)

Good overview Emily! I have thought about joining Pilots Edge for a long time :-) Now, with MSFS2020 I may just do it. Thanks for this. Would love to see more videos like this one, showing the Pilots Edge network. There are not many videos currently out there like that, certainly not to this depth and quality. I am not a pilot, but really love this stuff.

Fun fact... The tower and clearance controller is my sister. Does such a great job over there! The video is well done btw look forward to more. You can move the martial by activating ground services.

Yeaaa! Great tutorial Emilie! You may not be a Grand Caravan Pilot , but you are a grand Pilot! Thank you for making the video! I know it takes a lot of planning! Have fun " Keep the Blue side up!" Pilot Edge is awesome especially for retired pilots like myself.

Oh, the Live ATC is pretty cool.. had no idea that was available. It has now seriously made me think about resuming my PPL training.

@@pilotedgeATC hi, pilot edge, if heard of you in other youtube videos in xplane 11. Im only 12 however so I think I'm too young for the age limit. 😔 one question, is pilot edge global or only certain parts of the world?

Love your vids so far and am now a Patreon supporter! Woot woot! I am just a lowly VFR pilot in the SF Bay Area and haven’t flown all year and also had a job loss during these covid times. However, I’m hopeful for a brighter 2021! My flight sim equipment arrives next week and I can’t wait to start a virtual plane again soon! Thanks for the videos Emilie!

Thanks so much for all the effort, sharing and educating, your real-life flying expertise shines right through. Super helpful for those wanting to immerse further into this fab sim. And that landing, "Not too bad", ha, that was butter!

Wow. Gave me a lot to read up on. I'm working on re-learning everything I've forgotten over the past 25 years since I was last flying. I've been tooling around in the Cessna 172 and Diamond DA62 and trying to get things right has been demanding and somewhat confusing. I know I'm a year late to this video, but great job on it.

It's really interesting now you actually speak to the control on your videos. Look forward to watching them. Keep them up ❤️

Great video! You just sold me on Pilot Edge. I just got my instrument rating and working towards commercial now, and that looks like what I need to keep my IFR skills somewhat sharp. I’ve been into sims since about 2006, but the sim ATC sucks. Thank you and please keep posting these kinds of videos!

So now we have a world of business travellers that dont get to travel anywhere because of corona watching youtube videos of professional pilots and air traffic controllers that dont get to work because of corona? 2020 is a strange year.

Hi Emilie... Not only liked your video, I loved it. Fantastic personality plus an excellent presentation from an actual airline pilot and Canadian to boot. What could be better, eh. Thanks so much!!

Great video. This is one of the only realistic FS2020 videos I have seen where ATC is used, making it truly an IFR flight. It would have been great to see the lights of the Las Vegas strip at night when you came in for a landing..
