Rebuilding the Engwe M20's Terrible Forks and Shock Upgrade

Hey i picked up my Engwe m20 about 3 weeks ago and went ahead and purchased the rear suspension like yours the 165mm and it is too short. Did a quick comparison and the top suspension mounting bracket sits further forward on mine then it is on yours. Just purchased a 200mm shock since I do want it lowered a bit to see if that will work. Just a heads up for anyone buying a new one please confirm and check the spacing of the top bracket of the shock/suspension.

Brilliant as always Ross. I don’t know where you find the patience. 😂 As you know, one of the first things I did with my M20 was swap the front and rear shocks out for Air, rear being adjustable Rock Shox. I’ll add this to the resource site when I get back from my holiday next week (Vacation). Gee Dee.

Thank you the video helped me a lot 👏👍 yes I didn't have it as fast as it seemed easy but I made it 😂😂 now finally the fork works somehow. I have to hold out till Christmas then there comes the fork from Fox . Unfortunately it's made for 27.5 rims not 20 rims . The difference between the 20 and 27.5 fork is 13cm in length but it will change the geometry and load on the frame. After much consideration I replaced the rear shock with a Fox spring shock 230mm long due to the weight of the bike and what I expect the characteristics on the second Dh bike I even replaced the air for a spring and sold the air shock. From your next video I changed the converter for a bigger one and I don't have to pedal like a hamster in a cage at speeds over 30km/h. I still want to try to increase the performance from your video but I'll leave that to the professional. I don't want to destroy the driver and wait many days for a new one.

I have seen others opt for longer forks in the front, even with a larger tire as well. It looks a bit odd but seemed to work okay, especially if you do raise the rear with a longer shock. Good luck!

Another thing is this fork legs have zero seal. So few rainy trips and you have rust inside. I bought rubber fork legs covers and pack inside with ton of grease. Saw someone doing same fix with 3d printed tpu covers.

Do you know if Engwe uses the same fork and suspension for the x24 aswell?

No, the X24 seems to use much larger diameter stanchions. I have not opened it up yet, but the damper doesn't lock up in the cold on my X24 like it does on my M20 so I assume it may use a larger / more proper damper setup.

Sadly haven't been able to make anything new in that regard. A lot has happened over the last few years that makes it a bit harder to work on that sort of stuff, and with all the video deletions and channel strikes it wasn't worth it to keep my channel focused on that. I do have it archived on Odysee and if it goes away, I'll have to find somewhere else to host it.

Just got my M20 and the front shock does not compress at all. Any ideas why?

If you turn the adjustment knob, does it change at all? Mine is a lot harder to compress in the cold. If your adjustment knob does nothing, the cartridge may be bad.

After taking a spill on mine I'm ready to replace the forks. Pretty sure they caused me to fly over them.

@@Pilotgeek sprained wrist and scuffed my face a little, but it definitely shook my confidence a bit. Planning upgrades for over the winter now.
