"boring" would be 30 minutes about food or shore-side restaurants. Technical discussion is the real meat and potatoes of boating!

Shawn, you did a well organized explanation of the equipment. Sail-boters always throw out the term "apparent wind" but you are the man that made sense of the term. Someone did a video on "follow-up" lever with reference to multi helm yachts and other steering systems which went over my head. Can you use both steering pumps at the same time to stay on course in heavy seaways? Now we know how to pilot Freedom but you didn't tell us where to find the keys. Also is their a warning light for when it's time to feed boat dog #1 and 2 :) I'm a Nordhavn Dreamer.
@mvfreedom
@mvfreedom 4 жыл бұрын
No we can only use one steering pump at a time; however, our boat has over-sized pumps to ensure quick, rudder response. And yes, we have a warning light for the boat dogs in the form of whining. Unfortunately, our beloved Sandy is no longer with us physically on the boat. She passed away in December from cancer but is still very much a part of the Freedom crew!

That was great. As a private pilot I enjoy understanding the “avionics”. I like the redundant AP and your AIS system is almost like ADSB. Really neat stuff

I love chart plotters, but I still use paper charts for planning, and I keep my location updated on a paper chart just in case of a system failure. Electronics are prone to lighting damage, but if you make regular entries on a paper chart, you can use it as a reference in an emergency.

Any young sailor (60 and below) should take every opportunity to sail with older skippers. They hold a treasure trove of information and useful tips. Their, been there done that, broke that and here’s how to fix that, information is worth the effort. You really can show your salt when you announce that your pass will be a “two whistle” pass. I learned that drinking beer before 9 am is not as shocking if you ask for a “bud cola”. And, after anchoring, scotch will settle the boat.

can you make a film about the other systems on your Nordhavn please, like the living area, the bathroom and how the shower systems work and head system too, grey and black water and how you flush and expel them from the boat, the ships plumbing mostly and how you service the system. the bed and its compfort, the storages for clothes and laundry. the house aspects of living on such a boat. I think you both would be great in this. and a major couriosity of how do you manage two dogs on ship? I really like your films because you show lots about the boat. god bless.

Thanks for doing the video...it's challenging to figure how long to stay on a tight shot of the instrument. 2 things I was interested in. You didn't talk about the handled rudder control under the rotary rudder control. Those are often on bigger ships and ferries etc. Also how you operate the throttle to get higher rpms without putting the boat in gear. I liked your gauge tape showing operating ranges. I have those and use glow in the dark sticky tape. Used a kids glow in the dark hobby kit ($2.99), just cut the strips out of the material. Works great at night. Look into a 360 degree camera on the mast to help with docking. So many aftermarket car kits running on 12 volt available now. You have room for another monitor.. Would be a big help landing a high sides boat like Freedom. Rock on Freedom...

Thanks for the video. I'm enjoying your channel far more than some of the other similar ones. I love the tech stuff especially. Keep up the great work and keep the videos coming, warts 'n' all.

Great overview about all the gatgetry in the wheelhouse. Very informative. If I were to own a boat it would certainly be a trawler, Nordhavn and Bering being on top of the list! I recently started watching your channel and I'm enjoying it very much. You're very chilled people and the videos are superb! You're certainly in a beautiful part of the world. Having said that, I mostly see you guys in fleeces, raincoats and hats! I've been living in the north-west of the UK so I get plenty of cold and wet as well! I'm originally from Mediterranean and a sun worshipper. Are you not going to head to south, when covid restrictions lift? It would be great to see the boat in warmer waters. Take care and thank you for the videos.
