評彈《梅竹》江文蘭 張建珍

Those of us who had listened to her with master Jiang Yuequan and others cannot forget how good 江文蘭 has always been. But I think in this performance she really stood out. I would applause loudly if I were with the appreciative audience. (Incidentally, Master Jiang also sang this piece flawlessly.)

Over the last half hour I listened to this piece several times. Why? The ladies are a good sight to view. Their singings are a treat to my ears. The lyrics are beautiful. I wonder in how many different cultures do plum and bamboo carry the significance that the Chinese appreciate (considering bamboo is widely grown only in China. But I am just an ignorant 粗夫.)

(1) Clearly, 江文蘭 was a very good teacher and 張建珍 a very good student. (2) There are a number of video 張建珍 performances with other partners including her husband, for example. She has kept her beauty quite well indeed.
