Great job Mike. Love the mods. I’ve done 1,100km with 36,000m ascent so far on my M10 and it’s been great. Only changes I’ve made are 160mm air shaft and Cuschcore Pro rear, XC front. I ride really rough rocky rooty trails here in Scotland and bike handles it all. Just got my range extender last week and used it for big day out. Completely destroyed my mates on full fats. Only issue I’ve had is had to replace main pivot bearings as ridden hard in a lot of mud. My LBS I bought it from did it for free but was a real pain as the rear brake and speed sensor cable housing interferes with bearing removal. Not the best design.

I ride my Jeffsy more than the emtb as i am a fit and strong 50 year old. I really enjoy the emtb but i only ever use eco and sometimes trail. I am faster on my normal bike when it comes to climbing than all my buddies. Long story short do you think the rise can replace both my bikes, and be the one that does it all? I have pimped my jeffsy and all my good kit will swap straight over to the Rise also. thanks very much for your time.

Definitely a possibility if you don’t ride a lot of Park and your local trails are good with Ebikes. You can ride the Rise with your acoustic riding buddies no problem with the motor off. It seriously climbs that well and handling will feel much closer to the Jeffsey than it would the Merida.

Hey Mike very informative video! Question…… if I mullet with 216x63 coil do I still need to run a offset bushing?
@ivangontyurev22123 жыл бұрын
Hello Mike. Thank you very much for your review. As I understand, the reason to use offset bushings is to have more slack geometry. What do you think about configuration 160/150 mullet? For this configuration shock size will be the same? What maximum shock size is possible to use in this frame? I not a big fan of offset bushings, but with a height 5’5” it’s really annoying to have 29 wheel in back.
@mtbmike98663 жыл бұрын
You need a 216x8.5 shock and may get away without an offset bushing but your rear linkage could make contact. Offset bushing eliminates this possibility. My 8.5x2.5 DHX2 had plenty of room but my 8.5x2.5 DPX2 was too tight. Depends on the shock tolerance and they all differ slightly. With this shock, your rear end will be 160mm. You have no choice. So you will need to buy a 160 or 170 air spring for about $50 to upgrade your fork

Great video! I have a question about the mullet conversion: with the lower rear axle did you notice the reduction in antisquat going uphill with excessive bobbing? Thanks!
@mtbmike98663 жыл бұрын
My concern was too high anti squat as most curves start off higher and drop off as you go through the travel. By the axle path beginning even earlier, anti squat at sag is even higher which is not good regarding suspension performance. Thankfully Orbea must have given the Rise less anti squat than it’s cousin the Occam and it seems to be a good balance between little to no bob and shock sensitivity

Yea, the bike in 29er is really good as well. Slightly less playful but feels like you got 5-10mm more suspension out back. Currently have 170 up front, 160mm out back in 29er. 64.4 deg HT angle and higher 345-347mm BB but once saged, it’s within 2-3mm of stock since you are at 30% of 162mm vs 30% of 140mm. I think 63.0-64.5 is the sweet spot for head tube angle for more aggressive riding
@daneclay87633 жыл бұрын
Offset bushing 8mm x 22mm correct?
@xav_10293 жыл бұрын
What type of headset does it use? You could get the reach and BB back in check by using an angle set. -1 or -2 with a 10-20mm longer fork basically offset each other.
@mtbmike98663 жыл бұрын
Doesn’t that steepen the head angle? I like it at 64 degrees. What I’ve done is lower the stem and longer stem to offset the shorter reach and seems to be fine.
@xav_10293 жыл бұрын
@@mtbmike9866 I ran the numbers in a calculator with a 9point8 -1.5 angle set and 160mm fork (standard shock): 63.5 HTA, -8mm reach, +2.5mm stack, -0.5 STA, -2mm ETT, +4mm BB vs no angle set: 64.5 HTA, -9.25mm reach, +7mm stack, -0.8 STA, -2mm ETT, +6.5mm BB So by using an angle set to slacken the HTA and putting a longer fork, you keep the geo more in check and basically just change the HTA

Hi Mike, Sorry if this is redundant, but I did not see on the comments. You have a 8.5x25. coil but using a 67mm spring instead of a 61mm spring. Is there a reason for that? I bought a 425x67 spring and it seems to buck me a little. I weigh 165 lbs with all my gear. Thanks!
@mtbmike98663 жыл бұрын
You may need a 450 or 475 spring and add some compression to the shock. I am 150 and running a 400 but just moved to a 425 since I’ve been jumping more lately. A 425x67 should never cause the spring to Bind on a 63mm stroke shock

For the bottom and for the too? Have you also changed the rubber? Because the oiginal black and yours is slightly red? Thank you very much in advance! -Denis

8.5x2.5 shock for a 160mm rear end. 1 offset bushing 15.75x8mm 1 27.5” wheel and tire Remove 2 links off your chain as mulleting shortens your chainstay a tad. I Did not change the bottomout bumper on the shock.

One further question regarding 2 offset bushings with 29er- 8.5 x 2.5 . Both bushings installed to shorted each end (eye holes facing each end of shock)? I currently run a Lyrik at 160mm. This will roughly make the rear travel around 155mm? Thanks Mike.
@mtbmike98662 жыл бұрын
No, offset bushings change eye to eye of the shock which affects Geometry only. Shock stroke defines travel. 55 = 140mm of travel, 60 = 154mm, 63 = 162mm

Great video. Would this work with a 7.875 x 2.25 shock? Would I require offset bushings? Thanks

Absolutely not. You need a longer eye to eye, not a shorter eye to eye and add offset bushings to make it even shorter
@spookyspxxky94133 жыл бұрын
@@mtbmike9866 Do you mean add offset bushes to make it even LONGER? If I wanted 150 front and rear what shock length would I require? Thanks
@mtbmike98663 жыл бұрын
@@spookyspxxky9413 offset bushings are designed to reduce the eye to eye length of a shock. If you want to a 150mm rear end on a 29er, go with a 210x60 shock. Actually gets you about 153mm. If you want to run a mullet, you have no choice but to run a 216x63 shock with 1 offset bushing which turns this shock into a 214x63 shock and the 63mm gets you about 160mm of rear travel
@spookyspxxky94133 жыл бұрын
@@mtbmike9866 Thanks for that info... I actually did some reading after your first reply and then realised that offsets only shorten a shock. I'm not bothered about the mullet, just want to replace the std forks with my 150 factory forks and not throw out the rest of the bike, so your 210 x 60 may solve that. 👍

@@mtbmike9866 hmm if I get it right for a mullet you need eye to eye 214 length. So i could run a mullet with 140mm real travel using 210x55 Standard shock with 2 offset bushing mountend to lenghten the eye to eye, right? Even replacing the shock with the same size will void warranty since Orbea never tested a DVO or RS or whatever u decide to use. That’s why u have to test it yourself to confirm.
