Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely pimp my soapstone holder! I've been using soapstone without a case for couple years now it's time to get a case. They always break!!

B&D marking tools. This company makes a thin soapstone holder and a medium soapstone holder. No need to keep sharpening your soap stone. your lines will be consistent every single time. Also if you need to use 1/4” soapstone holder I definitely recommend buying WYPO brand they hold up much longer than any other brand, worth the cost. I trust and use B&D marking tools for all my layout. Ask your welding store representative or you can find them on eBay 😉

Soapstone powder is Talc as in baby Powder and cancer (soapstone is asbestos) and that is why welders use it as it does not burn from a cutting torch. That powder you just made can cause mesothelioma.

Thanks for the tip, I just looked up the osha guidelines on Soapstone. www.cdc.gov/niosh/docs/81-123/pdfs/0558.pdf I'll be sharpening my soapstones outside with my p100 dust mask from now on. Thanks

I used to pick at the asbestos insulation on the boiler pipes when I was a kid in school, my lungs are as healthy as can be. No cancer, no mesothelioma, no breathing problems, I've been working with metal and soapstone all my life. Grinding, cutting, and now starting to forge, not to mention drywall and grinding fiberglass work (I ain't crazy, I completely covered EVERYTHING and wore a respiratory filter for the fiberglass grinding, that's not a job for the soft skinned)
