Fortunately I have a dehumidifier where I store my 10", but good tip on storing & condensation.

"Foot tip" - is that a toe? 🤣 (I know. Damn autocorrect)!

Don't worry about adding in printed content. It just shows how you're innovating your astro hobby. I've printed my fair share of accessories the past few months. Onstep box, stepper mounts, 320 tooth GT2 for my Alt bearing, bhatinov mask, phone mount for Astrohopper. I still use a shower cap on the back though to keep bugs out since there's an 80mm cooling fan behind the cell. Light leak is an issue for sure. I can see the laser collimator from behind the mirror.

He he. I too use a shower cap on the 8". Re: printed content, I will indeed continue to use it, I just won't start talking ' 3D printer talk'. Those without one can still get stuff printed.

You did a fine job there my friend! 3D printing has revolutionised many hobbies. I'm a child of the early 80's and growing up I was mad into RC cars, Heli's etc and spare parts were really expensive! Nowadays the kids can just 3D print many parts, it's awesome! Going back to today and Astro', ANYTHING that can save us a few quid is very welcome, because as you well know this hobby is eye-wateringly expensive!! Clear Skies and Thank You from Liverpool, England! Wes.

Thanks Wes. Yes, the 3D printer is a gamechanger for anyone that tinkers and again, yes. Tinkering is the way to go unless you have more money than time.

Great job Nugsy I like your autofocuser great bit of designing there I'm sure you'll get it sorted with those tweaks, hope you're ok over there after that storm? Clear skies!!

Hey Titch. I had my roof strapped down and all's well thanks. Hope you can say the same (don't know where you are/if it hit).

I'm more in the midlands although not at home right now, I am fairly confident the observatory is ok though as that survived a mini tornado that went through Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire & beyond, a few trees nearby didn't survive sadly.

Great tips there Nugsy! Wait, is this a 3D printing channel, or a ‘Nugsys’ space saving tips channel, or an Astro channel?? 🤣 No matter mate, I’ll still watch😀 Great video mate! Clear skies 👍

It's the 'all that helps my astro journey' channel. I have another couple of channels for non-related vids.

I like your 3d printed reduction gear and stepper motor bracket. Could you please share details on the electronics used to achieve auto focus with it?
@Cheapass-tro10 күн бұрын
Thank you. I've not yet shared any stl's. You could email me if you need any but I have to fine tune some files. As for electronics, I use the OnStep system, detailed in other videos of mine. In it is an A4988 stepper driver, but OnStep controls it via ASCOM & PC.

Oh, and I use APT's software & autofocus routine (Astrophotography Tool).

Could you please tell us what glue or method did you use to form the foam sheet into the hood shape and secure it to the ota?
@Cheapass-tro6 күн бұрын
Hi. I certainly could tell you but it would spoil my opportunity to instead tell you in this video : kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2PZqomvjLd2hZo (it's slight elasticity holds it on).

Is the spider still PLA? I think I remember asking this a year back, have you had to remake it yet or has it held up through the seasons?
@Zegery3 күн бұрын
Also, could you send the files for the pulley/autofocus bracket? Thank you
@Cheapass-tro2 күн бұрын
Hi. The spider is PLA+. Not sure if it's actually any better than PLA. This is it's first season. I'm only on my fourth image with it in place, so time will tell. Andy of Astro has had his longer. You could try asking him but he's not as good as me at responding.
@Cheapass-tro2 күн бұрын
@@Zegery email me that request and I'll send them over once I've made a tweak or two... email is listed on my channel page.

@ I must've been thinking of his spider, I left a comment on his video around a year ago. I wanted to make sure it was holding up well before I printed my own. I appreciate you offering the files
