All a matter of preferences. I have my Grandmothers old treadle machine. Dates around 1900. It is a working machine. This fancy Victorian style pin cushion isn't something my Grandmother would have had by her machine. Possibly in a curio cabinet for display if given to her by a friend. Just not a practical item when piecing quilts or making clothing for my Father and Uncle.

Enjoyed the beginning of this video. Appreciate the practical way of creating a stable base, for a pin cushion, from recycled goods. First "issue" I saw was using a rubber band to hold the batting in place. (sigh) Should have used wire, drawstring, or sewing to make that closure, as the rubber band will break. The batting will collapse further into the base if any pressure is applied. Sad, too, that the beautiful simplicity of the beginning turned into an elaborate Victorian display of extravagance. One that if it isn't kept under glass will become a dusty time worn yellowed relic without serving the intended useful purpose. To each his/her own. Fine for those who enjoy this stuff. Just not my cup of tea for useful items.

Thank you so much Donna :o) The stuff I dabbed on the end is Gesso mixed with fine decoration sand. I mix it in a small jar with a good closure and it stays in good condition for a long time. When it becomes too thick, I just add some water and it's good to go. I hope this helps =).
