Pinacle Drysuit Restoration

This is very old drysuit restoration project.
This is the the list of work that has been done:
1. The old wrist and latex seals was dry and gummy at some places, so they were replaced
2. The seams were completely resealed using aqua-tape
3. The old broken metal dry zipper was replaced by Tizip Masterseal
4. The new crotch strap was made and attached
5. The drainage holes grommets in the pockets were replaced

What material is the tape made of? And is it possible to remove the tape for future suit repairs without damaging the suit material.

The tape is a neoprene tape, the half millimeter thick rubber tape in this specific case. Whether you can remove it without damaging the suit fabric - the answer is "it depends". In this specific case the suit material is so tough, that you can remove without damaging it. Especially when the glue is dried out like in my case. If the glue is holding well, it would be tough to remove it.

@@DrySuitProjects Are there any methods for removing old tape and glue, for example, warming up above a certain temperature? Or won't it work with this glue?

@@DrySuitProjects As far as I can see from your videos, this is the main glue that you use to replace cuffs, zippers, and seal seams, or there is also glue for other materials. Perhaps there are different ones for neoprene, trilaminate, latex, silicone?

I wish it was that simple. There are so many different glues that are used out there. Sometimes heating wouldn’t work, sometimes it will. Rule of thumb I’m trying to not overheat the suit fabric so I’m staring with the lower temperature (slightly higher than a hairdryer) and I think I’m not going over 100C.

The main glue I’m using is Rema tip top sc4000 since it’s very universal and won’t break up contacting with the salt water. I also use aquasure we’re appropriate. Also, you can’t glue silicone. At least I’m not aware of how

I would like to know if SC4000 can be used as sealant and left without additional rubber seam? Does it dry out completely and becomes not sticky but still flexible and waterproof?

No, it wasn’t working for me

It dries out and all but the sealing is not reliable and fails pretty soon

Few questions. What are you using in your dremel to sand off the old stuff? Is the aqua tape the heat and stick kind? Do you just not heat it?

Sometimes the glues previously used are not susceptible to the heat. Another point against using the heat gun is that it “revitalize” the thermal glue used before. So getting rid of the old glue becomes nearly impossible

Pretty much immediately. The full bounding strength is developed in 12 hours if I'm not mistaken

It’s Rema Tip Top SC 4000. The tape is called aqua tape and it’s merely neoprene tape that it can buy in various places

SC 4000 of Rema tip top. The tape you can find by googling “aqua tape” it’s a rubber (crashed neoprene) tape
