I knew a girl many years ago who would work for a forestry company and plant pine trees. She and some other people would be dropped off at a clearcut area deep in the forest. They'd set up tents and spend each day planting seedlings. They were paid about .15 cents for each seedling planted and the boss could tell if they were all planted and not discarded somewhere. She did this every summer until she got married. Strange thing about that girl...she never wore shoes. Even in the winter she went barefoot. She was a hard core "tree hugger" and a vegan. During the winter she worked as a waitress in a bar where I was the bartender. I was having problems with mice getting into the snacks (chips, peanuts, etc)so I put out some traps. She came in one morning and found my traps and a mouse was in one. After chewing me out and raising hell, she quit the job and I never saw her again. Weird girl.

How did they separate the fruit from the cone?
@flipster72852 жыл бұрын
The cones would most probably get dried which makes them open up, then placed in a tumbler to extract the seeds. That's how we do it anyway.

Depends, what do you see as a forest and what do you see as a plantation? Has most of europe's forests not been harvested already and replaced with planted trees even if those trees are not planted in rows?
Didn’t get to see how they got the nuts out of the cone. wtf?..

this footage is stolen especially the last part when teh black guy is pruning the pine tree, I saw the same video on growing Pine Plantations for lumber
@flipster72852 жыл бұрын
Definitely. He is pruning what seems to be Pinus elliottii and it does appear to be a South African video (I've been in the SA forestry industry for over 10 years now). Pine nuts are typically produced from P. cembroides, P. edulis, P. pinea and P. koraiensis and have seen both P. Pinea and P. cembroides being shown in this video.
@thethiefonthecross90922 жыл бұрын
Part of this video is kind of pointless when they show the farmers planting the seeds and harvesting the little trees those trees ain't going to produce nuts until they're huge trees what they're doing is probably selling these trees they have nothing to do with making pine nut candy not until like 20 years down the road. It's kind of pointless to even show this
