Etho has truly come almost completely out of his shell he’s been hiding under this season.he is totally coming out of (said not closet) and seems more relaxed by everyone just hanging out and letting it be the product. It has truly made a huge difference in how well this season is going!

As a Journalist, I have the answer to the Oxford comma question. (At least as it applies to journalism) According to the AP Stylebook, "As with all punctuation, clarity is the biggest rule. If a comma does not help make clear what is being said, it should not be there. If omitting a comma could lead to confusion or misinterpretation, then use the comma." So in this sense, etho would be right. However, it continues to say this regarding the use of commas in a series: "Use commas to separate elements in a series, but do not put a comma before the conjunction in most simple series." But also: "Include a final comma in a simple series if omitting could make the meaning unclear." So basically Etho is always right and never doubt him.

There was a pretty high profile lawsuit against a company for adding work outside the original scope of the contract. The decision came down to "_____ and other duties" there was no comma. The court decided that those other duties were related to the duties listed in the blank. Meaning the business lost and had to pay for breaching contract all because they left out a comma before the "and" in the contract.

They actually do teach the metric system in schools now, but it's secondary to the imperial units. We used both in science and math classes from 5th grade onward, but the rest of the time everyone just uses imperial. In journalism, there are stricter rules about commas- the APA style says you know Etho, Pearl and Gem.

Duuude, I LOVED the punch-bow-flight era. Having a 'knack' to it made flying actually feel really fun once you got going! I don't think it's actually gotten any harder to do than it was originally, we've just lost the knack! Although, Pearl also pointed out the main downside to it, it's very reliant on network latency - at least for performing a standing take-off, since your ping had to be fast enough for the arrow to hit before the elytra deactivates.

Americans DO NOT do Paper Rock Scissors... It has always been Rock Paper Scissors perhaps some weird local thing somewhere int he states, but not NORMAL.. We have both imperial and metric on speedometers because of North American Standard. Basically car manufactures do not often build different cars for Canada vs the States. We attempted a couple times to migrate to metric... but each time there was a huge outcry "we can't be expected to relearn everything"

Both loved and was pained by the random grammar segment lol 😅 For the British English perspective, we only use the Oxford comma when a list is unclear without it, such as lists where each ‘item’ has multiple words, but a shopping list would more often do without. There are a few grey areas with grammar, though, and it more often depends what ‘style’ you were taught or try stick to. Consistency is, in some ways, more important … but there are also a fair few definite rights and wrongs 😂

Talking about the Oxford comma, someone won a lawsuit over this. The company had written a list in the contract without the Oxford comma, and then fired an employer over something related to the list. He sued as he said it was ambiguous without the comma and won the lawsuit. So while it's not a requirement, the Oxford comma is very useful in making things clearer. You can't make mistakes like the lawsuit if you just use the Oxford comma.

I was the same in Grade 7 Gem, our English teacher was also our homeroom teacher, & we would have English first up after morning homeroom, Mr Butler would collect the English homework at the start of homeroom, & if you didn't have it, or it wasn't done properly, you had to miss out on 'play' at recess & lunch, instead, there as a bench outside the French classroom where you had to sit the entire time. One day we had a book report due, but I had been busy all week helping my mum & dad after school, the report was about three-quarters finished when we arrived at school, but I still had to sit on that bench on breaks. Another time, my friend & I had been paired up on an assignment, & we were discussing it when he decided MID CLASS that we were going on to something else, my friend & I had to work on the assignment during lunch because of that. Thankfully, we didn't have Mr Butler past Grade 7.

American colloquialism (way of saying) of phrases including dates should be formed by how they're used in actual conversation, not how you type in a file on a computer. How words "roll off the tongue" is important & saying "today is May 8th, 2024 or 5/8/24" generally flows better in conversation than "2024 on the 8th of May" imo. Plus, American English has developed to be spoken quickly. For example, we constantly make up nicknames & abbreviate titles. Particularly in pop culture because communication is time & time is money. So we make a saying 3 words that the British would use 6 for & the Australians would say upside down. Hey, that's okay! We don't have to all be the same & our way works for us.
