Ping i230 Iron Review Overall BEST Ever?

Having the i210 in the bag, this is by far the iron I was waiting for! If you could do a i210 vs i230 comparaison it could be awesome ;)

I just ordered mine after a fitting a couple days ago. They were AMAZING. Much better for me than the i430(didn't really like them at all) or the i525s. I really wasn't expecting to like them as much as I did (I'm used to a chunky game-improvement iron) so I thought I'd be intimidated by the small size (I'm a 15 HCP). I actually found the size of the head and almost no offset actually GAVE me more confidence. I literally couldn't miss with these things and I cannot wait until they come it!

Hi Edwin, I'm so glad ping didn't lose the qualities of i210 in their i230 replacement. Definitely an iron that golfers should have on their test list 👍

My Adams Ideatechs have polymer in them. But in testing on my channel the Mizuno HL gave me 15 yards. Guess 10 year’s of tech is big. I always swing slow, lol

50 years old and have the MP-20 MMC’S. Like them, but always liked the I210 feel. Hit the Blueprint at a demo day and fell in love with the look and turf interaction. A Blueprint I230 combo out of the question for a decent ball striker and low spin player? Great stuff as always!

Not at all, in fact using traditionally lofted irons would actually give you a touch more spin just through loft. Steer clear of the lower spinning balls. Very very little loft adjustment would need to be made to the i230 to gap all the clubs properly also 👍

Please please do a comparison vs the i210. Specifically in the long irons as that is where the biggest changes have been made. Everyone has said that the long irons are much more compact, but nobody has shown this yet.

I'm a complete Ping convert. I had a full bag of Titleist, and always flipped irons between Mizuno and Titleist, but I tried a set of S55, and they went right in the bag. The i210 were just always a bit too expensive used, and the iBlade was identical to the S55 over the ball, so the cheaper iron won. I do really like these though.

@@derekwhyle1884 I’ve got 2 irons peeling. It’s not ideal but they were only £200 for 3-W with KBS Tour shafts. Really hard to get a set of black dot S55 now. Almost the same forgiveness score as the current G425 so it’s a win win.

How would you compare the i230 vs zx5? I’m a 8 handicap, 82mph 7 iron swing speed 160yard carry , 100mph driver . What would you suggest preference for level ?

The swing speed reduction makes most sense to me. I agree with the majority of golfers who swing at lower speeds. We prefer to see realistic testing results that somewhat relate.

Saw the head today at my fitters studio..looks nice. Definitely a bit more compact than i210. Back of the head is reminiscent of the iBlade. But they ain't cheap...too pricey for me I'm afraid....

@@AskGolfNut thanks for getting back to me. I am thinking about feel, accuracy, and consistent yardage. What I like about the Pings is the more traditional lofts, and to me it would be more about consistent results. Have a great night.

Great review. Think there needs to be an i525 /i230 head to head. Was looking at the i525 but maybe the i230 in power spec might be an option…..

Hi Sean, do you know what...... I don't think I'd ever touch them. They are bang on as they are 👍 although yes if you were going to blend with the i525, I'd go 5,6 i525 and 7 onwards i230. Retro the i525 and keep those i230s unchanged. Or have 2 x 7 irons. Unchanged i230 and power spec the 7 and 6 i525 with a half inch longer shaft (so they technically become your 6 and 5 iron) 👍

how would you compare these to i530 retrospec'd? am considering a blended set of both... considering i530 for longer irons to help w/ confidence/i230's for scoring irons. what are your thoughts?

I think they would blend amazingly well. The i530 retro in the long irons will give extra help with miss hit and extra launch to keep the distance gapping necessary as the irons get longer 👍🏻

I seem to remember you were equally a fan of the i210s when they first came out. Infact, everyone who reviewed them loved the 210s.

They definitely set themselves apart in the range. To get the levels of feel from another ping iron you'd have to go Blueprint. 👍

Hi J F, comparing the i230 against the 923 and even 225 will be tricky when it comes to lofting. I230 33 deg, 225 30 deg, 923 even stronger lofted. How would you like it done to try and give the best results possible? 👍

Watching your G425 video, you lost 8 yards off 19mil toe and 8 yards off 21mil toe on these and these will have far less fliers, if any. Would these not be considered just as forgiving or maybe even more than the g425?

Trackman has me at 88mph 7 iron going 175, Arccos has my 7 iron at 171, Cobra MB 34deg blades. I rarely ever play with people who hit the ball as far as me, so you may want to drop that speed down to like 80 mph for the average player.

Absolutely! The Tour isn't far off the full on Blade with minimal help. The i230 is closer to that of the JPX923 Forged or Pro 243 with a little less 'tech' and more traditionally lofted. 👍🏻
