Just in general things to check: advance timing so at 3000 rpm @32TDC, run high octane and or quality fuel, Lean condition run carb Idle mixture run them a hair rich, coolant thermostat fast acting (not high flow) give the radiator a chance to cool the engine. Static Timing from 10 being the min and 12 being the max. Yes for, you running to lean got those cylinders to hot.... Great video.

Nice! I put and low pressure electric fuel pump on my 71. Kinda chokes out at full throttle but I think it’s a carb issue. Beautiful build! I’ve learned so much from this channel.

Nice car, glad you figured it out, nothing worse than chasing a problem. I've enjoyed all your paint videos. Because of you I just received my Urechem sealer, base and clamor clear today for my 65 GTO, I had first ordered single stage another brand and could not get it to lay without orange peel (on practice parts), hopefully I can practice and get the Urechem to lay out. Motor sounds great who built that for you. Thanks

Good deal on the URechem. I really liked it and I'm a novice/hobbyist. Good thing about have a few coats of clear is that any texture/dirt can be buffed out! I ordered a long block from Len Williams Auto Machine in OK. He is on the web. Super great price and i had zero issue with the build quality, shipping, customer service was great. Len is old school though. He only takes checks or cash and it did take him several months to get it built and shipped. I put the intake, carb, distributer etc on and did the break in out in Heavy Pedal Garage. If you are looking for a quality affordable build, he is the man!

I figured when you said 9.25 compression and 6x heads it was probably Len, yea he built my 461 stroker for my 67 firebird. Runs great almost scary lol. Son and I did a total frame off, like new, but now have decided to sell it, with about a 100 miles on it. Only because the 65 GTO is really my fav car. I had 65 GTO when I was 17. Thanks

Thanks for sharing this. I have the same car, I don't have any pinging or detonation but it seems to fall flat around 3000 rpm and I have the shallow canister pump on my 455. When you went to the deep canister pump, did you have any interference issues with the rubber inlet fuel line and the pitman arm?

On the older Pontiacs the Creedlesoakers sometime cankle in inclines and declines above 2% grade. An alternative is to change the dottie floats in the Stroffometer outside of the inner tank which sits on the inside moving sideways😅

Glad the video helped. I got my fuel line from Classic Industries. I think it was OER brand. I dont have a part number unfortunately, but my block is for a 1973 GTO and the line listed for that block fit just right.

Detonation occurs when the fuel stops burning prematurely. Peek cylinder pressure needs to occur at 14*ATDC

At 9 anything to 1 compression you will be good with regular gas. You are probably losing ho by running premium. Understand how octane rating effects an engine. Alsowhat is your head gasket thickness and how deep in the cylinder does the piston sit tdc. Open or closed chamber heads? Im thinking you lack effective quench
@HeavyPedalGarage
@HeavyPedalGarage 7 ай бұрын
good advice. not sure on head gasket thickness or piston depth. ive read a little about quench, but will try to learn more.

will knock give you s serious blow to the car. I have a severe intermittent shudder going uphill at 60mph in the mountains. i thought it was a transmission shift but letting off throttle and octane booster helped. buick 1999 3.8L... i think it is pre-ignition. plan - scan computer, plug check, borescope. I am losing coolant and i think alternator elbow is leaking. plan to replace elbows and upper and lower manifold gaskets.
@HeavyPedalGarage

Might try changing the fuel filter. Hopefully it’s not burning coolant. That would be a head gasket failure.
