A sprawling expanse of creosote bushes sways in the gentle breeze just outside our windows. The haggard tarmac stretches out before us winding its way through to left-behind places. Whole lives were lived out here, and it seems nowadays, just the sun, wind, and rain pays these places any attention.
Only the hearty and strong-willed survived. The places they laid their heads seem to have taken on that trait. The instinct to hold on and let your story be told has a tight grip on the small ghost town of Lake Valley.
The homesteads and buildings which sit tranquil behind a wire fence have the most to say. There is a magnetism to them. You can feel in the air, like the eyes of a painting which follow you. A mystery blankets the lands now, and you wonder why. What brought them and you out here?
It was one of the largest silver strikes in the area that enticed the first inhabitants to this area-the Bridal Chamber Mine.
Whole towns sprung up with the hopes of riches providing a comfortable life, and Lake Valley was no different.
The last resident passed away in 1994 after arriving in 1904, spending 90 years in the same home.
The Bureau Of Land Management took over the townsite and is slowly restoring what has refused to give up.

That is the best car I've seen so far in a mining camp. I like the boilers and winches and head frames and surviving ore bins as I'm a train modeller doing mining activities. The more mine history the better too. Gold. Thailand Paul formerly of California.

We wondered if the car had been left, or if the BLM had got it from somewhere else. Fortunately, they have caretakers here 24/7 which helps prevent looters.

I worked at White Sands Missile Range in the,1960s and had an office mate who had been a fourth generation rancher in the Lake Valley area. He occasionally returned there to attend the monthly dance held in the school house. He said that the place was always packed and had lively bands. No alcohol was allowed in the building but many would sneak out to the cars once in awhile.

I'm really enjoying your videos of Nevada ghost towns. I grew up in Sacramento County and did a lot of exploring in Nevada back in the 70s. it never got out to enough places though. I have some rare books on the old local history. One of them is "Ghosts of the Glory Trail," by Nell Murbarger, published in 1954. She did a thorough job. There are vivid descriptions of towns that have changed a lot since when she found them. So the book is a good "moment in time." sort of look at these places.

WOW! Thanks so much for this video. I like the fact that you took the time to explain some of the history of the place. A pity that there are not some old photo's of the place during its peak - I am sure that there are some somewhere - perhaps an appeal to your viewers might produce some for mounting in the museum. Again thanks for a really enjoyable video.

This place is about a 2 hour drive from me. I was last there a couple of years ago. You two gave a real good vid tour. I would recommend if you are planning on visiting, get there early, you could spend many hours touring what's left of this ghost town. You won't be disappointed. So, I hope you two stopped and got a burger at the general store in Hillsboro, if you didn't you really missed out. Or if you traveled the other direction, if you didn't stop at Sparky's in Hatch. Man, you really missed out. NM True!

I just started watching your videos. I would like to suggest wasting a moment of time focused on the signs. I tried to read them and have a hard time setting the pin back down on the frame with the sign. Often the sign is too blurry to read also . If you focused on them for a minute, I could screenshot them and read them later. It takes 4 or 5 tries before I manage to get it done. It's a bit frustrating .

That car is a *1935 Plymouth, Deluxe Four Door Sedan. **8:49* She came with a 6-cylinder engine which displaced 201 cubic inches. She was the second most popular Plymouth automobile, for that year, eclipsed only by the *Deluxe Touring Four Door Sedan* (production of 82,068). Over 66,000 of this model were manufactured and they sold for a robust $660. The Touring Sedan required an additional $25.00 requiring the heady sum of $685! In some advertisements, this Plymouth was touted as being *an 80 MPH car.* Performance figures modern-day Tesla owners can only dream of… From here, up until the introduction of the V8 in the 1950’s, Plymouth advertising generally promoted economy, styling and creature comforts rather than mechanical innovation. This vehicle sported an iconic grille and hood vents, as well as, a dramatic front posture. Rear suicide doors, a dramatic spare tire holder and oversized front fenders coupled with running boards, complimented her styling cues! That is an incredible find!

At 5:37 she, your wife? Or girlfriend is sitting in an old 1 room school desk that 1 kid sat in. About 15 years ago, me and nearly all my family members got together and moved the 1 room school house that my grand-parents went to up until the 8th grade. We had it moved on-to our land so we could have it refurbished. Inside, and the entire, outside. After, it was fully finished, we had it moved again, much closer to one of the main roads that cut through our county, and our farm, so folks that want to see it, can. We are, 4th-Generation-Montana-Dry-Land, Farmers. Outside of Sydney.
